Yeah go on Site Support, a joker like Phil as a moderator is just what this forum needs. With Phil as a moderator, all the bullet points containing the words 'moderator' and 'discretion' might as well be ignored. Shamoan!

First thing I'd do is ban myself, then anyone else who just posted inane drivel ie. "game of singles" ;) And they're not bullet points they're lower case o's

Don't really get that joke, if it is a joke. Frankly Phil, the your jokes have been plummeting lately. Get a grip before they reach the underground and I have to travel to London Victoria to find them lying around somewhere.
>>

>>
Let's get this straight, you've (hypothetically) just banned yourself. Therefore you can't log in to your account and therefore have no power over other members.
>>
then anyone else who just posted inane drivel ie. "game of singles" And they're not bullet points they're lower case o's
>>
So first of all, you can't ban anyone else.
2nd of all, once you've progressed past the 'Badminton Garden Party' stage, you'll find that in a proper game of badminton you don't have a minimum of 10 people playing on each side of a Fisher Price net using Tomy badminton rackets, almost as you saw in the Argos Catalogue. In a proper game of indoor badminton you will have either 2 or 1 player on each side of the net (i.e. 2 or 4 players on court in total). "game of singles" is firstly not what I said - I said 'Singles?' - and there if nothing unusual or nonsensical about it. It is simply challenging someone to a game of 1v1.
Lower case o's... ah I see now. There was me thinking they were being used as bullets points, but in actual fact it is Site Support remembering different rules.
Oh, You may not post on any forum any material that is libellous, defamatory, obscene, racist, abusive or invades a person's privacy.
Oh yes and by the way, Taking the thread purposely 'off-topic' will result in the post being removed.
Thanks for clearing that one up for me.

At a guess I'd say its your best effort to spell the word 'discretion'.
Its a shame Phil, I was actually supporting your attempt to become a moderator, but you failed to realise.

Due to the increase in name calling and general aggressiveness against fellow members we are now going to start invoking the forum guidelines. People who now act aggressively towards other members and insist on name calling or 'misusing their name' will be removed from the forum.
We would also like to remind members that being duplicitous by means of multiple user ID's isn't allowed. One recent thread had 3 people with at least two ID's talking to each other and one with three! If you want to continue to do this then we suggest you set up your own forum as most of the members here don't want to see it.
This is now a repeat of last summer where we removed those causing problems. As we are very nice people here at Badders.com we offered those involved a second chance... some of the perpetrators are actually senior badminton players and therefore do have words of wisdom to offer.
It is up to those people to decide whether they want to remain members of the site...

Site Support - You are going to have to define what is and is not acceptable to say then, if two people know each other; then when is a windup between friends ok and when does it cross the line as set down by yourselvs? Everyone has varying levels of what they find acceptable.
Yes the name calling has gotten a bit out of hand by the pack but the posts have to be moderated in a sensitive manner, personal insults either removed or edited where certain references are made but still leave the points made by the poster because despite the name calling and winding up there is a large amount of logic and things that need to be addressed in these posts! (Albeit they seem to cycle round to the main slating of the BA of Efor whatever reason)
Another thing you have to bear in mind is that when the system software sends out the instant e-mail notification about new posts it sends out the original post unedited so all the subscribed posters get to see it anyway, making the eiting seem silly and posters left wondering where the missing bits are.
I'd still like to be a moderator!
Is that OK?

my two penneth!! i have just spent about an hour reading threads on this site and it just enforces the reason why I don't visit this site on a daily basis like i used to. the amount of personal insults / banter etc is too much in my opinion. everyone is entitled to their comments but please stick to the thread instead of having a public slanging match.
I think there should be a special section in the forum called 'forum death match' and those persistent offenders should be sent there for a while and may the best person win!! PS: No I don't want to be the first visitor!!

What a mess Eagle. You're like a parachutist tangled up in his parachute in the sea. Or perhaps you really are a skier with your head buried in the snow whilst at the same time demonstrating your definition of a full moon. You don't know whether to be a funny man or a mature woman. The spelling is so appalling it actually almost makes sense. Here's an example:
"infact ill join in with the rabble as its quiet amusing really."
So rather than being quite amused, you were quietly amused. Fair enough.
I see an attempt to form an alliance with tango doll is underway. The situation's a rather hopeless one though, since the tango doll is not going to go out of her way to have someone like you teaming with her.

There was also another mistake in the sentence which you failed to spot Tango, in spite of the fact you looked very closely and carefully at the sentence. So, funnily enough, its almost as if I am correcting you:
"Come on now Tango. Everyone knows you're asking for it with that font"
If you're going to try and correct The Vorpulus in a Vorpesque fashion, you must spot every mistake.
How am I supposed to take you seriously, Tango, when your name is 'The Tango Doll' and you write in an orange font? I mean my goodness. Its like a clown telling people not to laugh. I don't think you really understand yourself Tango, which is the truly worrying thing. 'Am I a jolly jester joker, or am I a mature adult?' is what you need to ask yourself. Let me know what you decide.

I think what you have to realise Kevin is that Vorpulus and Southern Monkey have been directing personal attacks at people on an open forum and have also been sending PM's to people abusing them which of course we would not know about because people do not post their Pm's.
As someone who does not know either of these people I must say I found their postings very witty but none were directed at me in the same way others were abused and I received no PM's
Site support were kind enough to send me a message with the reasons they banned these two posters explaining in full their reasons but in reading it I figured out it was best to stop posting on this site because many members also reagrd me as of that ilk and as a very keen supporter of badminton in general and particular in Scotland it is best to give the forum back as it seems, to it's members who do not want this kind of posting and think it detrimental to the site.
I support in full the desicions made by site support, it seems they are the ones who have the full story some of which I have posted here so the members who post things like "why was XXXX banned" etc will know and wish the site to go from strength to strength as we all do.
Long may it continue. Here endeth the tally at 437!

You should know by now your opinion is the same as mine; it does not matter!
I would like to thank all those who sent me PM's and e-mails (sadly none were abusive  ), I shall do what I do best in being non-abusive through the PM system and taking people down a peg or two if they post complete rubbish which there is no need for on this site.
Now on with the banter!
P.S. can someone send me an abusive PM - I feel left out! :p

This constant battling between the site and it's users is becoming a little boring, As I said in a previous post, "No wonder badminton has such a stuffy reputation" when you can't have a slag at someone

Kevin,
We won't comment on any banning or deleting of posts/threads as stated before. However, as a new member you probably don't appreciate what has happened historically. We also make no apologies for occasionally being heavy handed occasionally - it has only happened twice since January 2002 and the only regret we have is not nipping it in the bud sooner.

Can’t comment or will not comment?
There is an underlying tone of this discussion here which is the line taken by yourselves which sits on the fence with “it’s not our site it belongs to its members”, and the “we make no apologies for occasionally being heavy handed” line, what happened did someone kick over your sandcastle?
Have I not posted before (many times) about the need for clarity in the forum regarding the rules? It is only right that you explain your decision to the people the site belongs to “it’s members” by your own wordings, or is it all a line and your spin department is working overtime in the need to pull people on side? Community site indeed!
In order that a limit is established we would need to be informed where the line is to be drawn and examples given NOT MADE!
As per Kevin’s post we are mostly adults and can take a bit of stick because we can tell humour from insults but sometimes the line is blurred and some of us take things a bit too far, agreed.
Please clarify this line or the next generation will try and push it further as is already starting to happen since the demise of Monkey and Vorpulus.
If there have been abusive PM’s sent then this is clearly out of order but can we have someone shouting out “I received a PM from XXXX” and the best way to deal with it, is to post it on the forum for all to see and be judge.
Would any of the members who received abuse through the private messaging system care to join in this discussion?
We now have the perfect thread to discuss this openly and in an adult fashion.
Phil.

i received an abusive pm from a junior.what happened when i complained? absolutely nothing and site support made a rather feeble excuse for them!doesn't seem like the rules apply to everyone?
also,as site support clearly stated in a thread they deleted that anyone targeting a player or association for negative comments will have their membership revoked,i don't feel i can contribute anymore.
thats not to say i come on here to slag people off but i'm one of the few people who actually has an opinion and isn't afraid to say it.too many people on here daren't criticise anyone which makes for rather boring reading.
an example(i always give reasons) is the bbc interview thread.
the interviews were crap but anyone who dared say this got accused of slagging them off or you couldn't do any better or any publicity is good publicity.you even had one of the players complaining about the thread!!GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH!
another example is the irish open thread where again i had the arrogance to suggest that our top mens singles player would never become a top 16/world class player because this player IMO didn't have enough weapons to hurt players. i was then critised by one of his county players for giving that opinion even though when pressed, this person wouldn't give any opinion whatsoever on the player(obviously negative but didn't have the balls to say it)
so rather than just post about how perfect things are just so i can keep my membership and so that the idiots on here who take themselves too seriously don't get upset i will take site supports advice and "find another forum"
regards.
ps.you can terminate my membership from now

Lyphane/Vorpulus,
We have replied to your emails several times over the past 12 months explaining why your posts have been deleted or your threads removed. I think it is time for you to move on and find other people to annoy.
"...slagging off is historical on this site..." Thanks Phil ;)
This is not the case at all. The sledging has come form only a handful of people and in two bursts - throughout this summer and last summer (on both occasions it is the same people...must be the heat)
Out of nearly 3,000 members we have banned no more than 5 people from using the forums. The site has been live for 32 months now and we have only deleted posts in 3 of those months.
The vast majority of people who use the site enjoy it and have never got involved in 'slagging'. In fact, discounting the small number who have been banned...it doesn't happen at all.
