Since our Phil/Phol will hit the 1000th post sooner or later, do you think we should update our site to have a new class of member like "senior member" to recognize his "contribution"?

Thats quite possible!

Although, the word "spam" springs to mind, not that i am connecting that with phil, but anyone can get to 1000 with enough time on their hands, its quality on quantity!

Red - The title "super Phol" will do :D

Well in that case I am open to suggestions for a new thread title, I was going to call it "zero hour" hence the count down, what shall I discuss in my 1000th post!

And quite true Alex, quality is better than quantity. Some others who have been here for only a short time are disproportionate in that respect. But in that case it has taken nearly 3 years to get to the big 1K. ;)

T minus 2 and counting.

very much agree with you. some of the forum will recognize quality and quantity: the moderator, administrator or site-support, who are normally familiar with all the posts or posters. the mods will judge and give grading to the posters:

eg( 1) 500 posts(with certain percent of junk post) will be senior member; (2) 500 high quality posts will get that guy to be senior contributor. so we give recognition to quality and quantity.

so who judges the quality of your posts and what benefits would you get?

1 i think site-support(i was told that SS is a "gang" of ppl) will be the judge. they read each post theoretically and they are very much familiar with each poster.

2 the benefits is huge. we give recognition to contributors. the shop might give a discount too.

whilst recognition is nice, i am not sure it is a huge benefit.

I also cant imagine that SS will have the time to read AND grade peoples posts...

how about "posts rating" by members. i've seen some forums have a members rate members program. the members can give "reputation" to posts that they read...some heavy posters keep on posting something like "hi", "goodday", "i'm going to sleep", "i wake up", "no work on hand"....will get no increase in reputation despite of posting 1000 posts and they will be somebody like "regular member" after these 1000 posts.

Further to your idea Joe, some threads HAVE got a rating although it is not clear how you can rate a thread?

SS some guidance here please

There is a system we have that allows members to rate the reputation of other members...we will have a look at how we can use it and get back to you.

trust me, nothing indeed. i was just quoting some "saying" from other forum regarding the ranking of "labels" and "reputation thingies".... since i couldn't copy what they were saying directly, i needed to make my verion of their saying....thus i just wrote whatever that came to my mind.... now that i noticed i had copied some of your arts...very sorry to have offended you...my apology if i make u unhappy in this...sorry sorry :o

to the contrary...i appreciate your endurance in fighting off during the hisslor era which was the darkest period in a site... and i really do agree that we need some lightheartedness in posts...i also support the implement of a "life" communication thread/forum(like what i have said before)

Far from it Red, I think if you ask site support their workload would have decreased over the last 6 motnths (dealing with abuse wise), if you ask some of the longer length members they will be able to tell you the site was a bit of a battle ground around 1-2 years ago in the summertime(s) where site support had to be very wary and made a lot of changes..

I remember those days like they were yesterday and looking back i got quite involved to be fair, a certain cheating discussion went for pages and pages and must have taken the SS hours to edit all the comments out that shouldnt have been there :D

To think i was 16 and hadnt even done my GCSE's back then, this is definately the first forum i ever joined and now i am a member of a fair few relating to my hobbies and interests; i have seen this go on elsewhere as well, people arguing, then it dying down only to rear its ugly head once again which im sure will happen here at some stage, perhaps after the ICT if word of mouth gets around - thats when it started back in 2002.

I think it's a cylclic thing around the summer, not trying to generalise I would think it is mostly school kids and juniors who have a bit too much time on their hands due to having time off and want to have a bit of fun.

Time on their hands

it was really tough time when i first joined, hisslor and his associates(plus some other helpers) had such high level of attacks....well it's equally difficult for the "post-hisslor era" as lots of ppls had made up their mind on quitting...it was you and larry who sustained the darkest period of time when almost no other posted except u and larry...it's not easy to have a ghost-town revitalized...now that the site is becoming more active....it's good to have the oldies, like alex..., back

when talking about the ghost-town, two things come to mind:

1 ghost-buster to settle in the town
2 the film "aliens: part ?" when ppls were settled down or colonized in the aliens' planet

now, we really need to get these oldies back and settle down again plus some newbies...
