Hey everybody, I am hoping to go back to uni this september either down cardiff way or carmarthen - can anyone recommend clubs in those areas? I havent played properly since last July (blame shift work and poor rotas) but I used to be quite good so would like a club that I can develop properly in! Also, and i know I have asked this way back when, but are there any decent clubs in Powys? I have really been struggling (in my free time) to find a group that a) caters for competition and b) isnt really "clique". Any help is appreciated!!!

Can't really help on the area you are looking for. However for anyone around the Glasgow area there is the Cockburn Centre Open Club on a Sunday from 6.30 till 9. Cockburn Centre situated in Govan near the Southern General Hospital and Braehead.
The club has players at all levels and players are guaranteed a good mixture of games. With the club taking all 6courts there is a good turn around between games so guaranteed lots of hitting time.
Price is £4 paid on entry and feather shuttles will be provided all night

G'day Moose,
As for Cardiff - Penarth, Nomads, Bridgend, Heath are some of the stronger clubs. Checkout the website
www.cdbl.org.uk
As for other things - there is a Welsh Senior Series which is 10 events located around Wales. Last week there was one in Aberystwyth and on the 2nd April there is one in Mid-Glamorgan. These are excellent tournaments for both club/county standard players. There is a wide range of standards but I am sure some of the players there could give you a game.
I organise the one in Cardiff where we had 34 Men's singles entries and 30 Men's Doubles. The other tournaments usually get around 20 or so. The Mid-Glamorgan tournament coming up is offering £600 worth of prize money.
Also there is a lower standard MWSS (Mid Wales Senior Series) where there is 4 tournaments and a final. These are enjoyable. They have one in Llandrindod Wells (only the other week) and ones in Doglleau, Macynleth and Abareron. Excuse my spelling !
As for clubs in Powys - there is a young man called Shane Fletcher - who should be able to help you. Contact someone at www.ccba.freeserve.co.uk and ask for his contact number.
I hope this helps.

Thanks very much for that mate - that is really useful. Ive just found the club in Llandrindod Wells (the sports centre swore blind it was a priavte club for weeks!!!) which is a really nice group - all of the individuals are more than helpful and enthusiastic! If I do (and I hope to) move down to south wales I will look up those clubs too. Cheers again!
