We have lift off!
Oh well it had to happen sooner or later, no not that - my 1,000th piece of inanity!
I can't belive it's taken me so long as I am like most other users who have a wee chack in the morning before going to work, generally to see the previous nights madness (you older posters and site support will know what I mean when the forum used to kick off after midnight and go on sometimes up to 4am). And also a wee check in between games ;)
I do have to say my madness has brought a new generation to the site via the constant usage of the infamous badders.com t-shirts (and wearing them in public too) and it's good to see so many Scots (especially Glaswegians) on the site when it was once the preserve of the English, a few more stories of Welsh badminton wouldn't go amiss from users like Sean who are very active in promoting badminton in Wales. I would still like to see more Scots participating in the UK competitions as a whole but there are many hurdles to overcome first.
In saying that I went down to the Duchy of Cornwall in September and was greeted by a few "so your the infamous Phil McBride - are you mad" if only you knew the half of it :p That just goes to show the community spirit we all have; we go, we play, we have fun! Long may it continue!!
Ach well, have to say well done to site support who throughout the years that the site has been up and running have had to put up with a lot of crap (some of it from me it has to be said, but I like a good argument as much as the next man) and have done a good and balanced job of it.
Loafer maybe one day you will catch up with the post count but being an "inept muppet" you might never get there badminton wise :D Well I thought I might as well say it.
The only one thing I would change is letting the Monkey back, I still miss his humour and respect his honest views!
Cheers to all of you, without the discussion I would have had nothing to reply to :)

wow, and i was always under the impression that those labels (as redkingjoe calls them) were computer generated. well, until i read 'forum veteran and old blabberer (or something to that effect ), that is.
BairnAgain: PMB isn't really big headed, to my understanding at least -- or maybe it's just my innocence -- half the threads in the forum are non- badmintonrelated so i guess it's no problem to include self-glorification among other topics of discussions? ;)

At least it shows Woody has a pair, at least he put his gripe in the open where people could see it. And to that fact we all know who Woody is.
It is up to the individual to reply and again up to the individual to differentiate what a phrase means and wether or not they find it offensive - Woody happened to find part of that phrase offensive.
And with that you Ba****ds have taken 8 of my karma points off - I started with 10 and am now at 2

Well that's the problem with context, it depends purely how the individual views and it's perception of what a phrase means.
I think it was more what the phrase implied that upset Woody.

So all my previous posts havent been my opinion!?!?!?!?!
What are they then?
Again your lack of ability to take things in context is shining through.
I believe the full sentence was:
"And as I said before at least Woody posted his opinion rather than snipe from the tree line."
Which clearly means that Woody has aired his view in public that he disagreed with your statement and in fact found it offensive. It was not about the opinion part but the fact that he chose not to hide whilst doing it.
If you would like a full explanation of the entire post herer goes:
"I think a couple of people at least would have judged you on that post alone since your karma rating has gone down to zero. And as I said before at least Woody posted his opinion rather than snipe from the tree line."
Allbeit Woody has had a go at you in public and aired his views, there are clearly others out there who are choosing to delete points from your karma rating as a direct result of your posts! Your rating is now 0! Everyone else is on 2. Therefore the whole post implies at least Woody is naming himself in critisising you whereas others are not.
Is that clear enough for you to understand? And you are calling others stupid (sheesh) It would seem you are about as bright as the colour green in your karma box

If possible can we draw a line under this discussion.
The original post was Phil's 1,000th post and people if they felt it appropriate added some comments to it.
It has now deteriorated into people either supporting me or having a go and thats not what its all about.
I personnally was offended by the nature of the post and obviously Site Support agreed or they would not just have edited it on the say so of a boring old one person.
What should be realised is that this site gets viewed by many different age groups and although it is supposed to be 'banter' there is no need for it to degenerate into the lower levels.
Ask this question of yourselves (answers not required) is that sort of post that we should encourage youngsters in particular to read. Yes I know they ahave a Junior Forum but there is nothing to stop them looking at the whole site.
LET THIS BE THE END and move on

This whole site is based on the idea that it is an open forum, with moderators to step in if there is a need.
In this case a member voiced an opinion that a post was offensive and therefore SS was quite correct to edit it, that is his role afterall.
I can understand how frustrating it is for BA to have a post edited when he felt it did not deserve it (i have been there), but that's the price you pay for posting in a moderated forum.
whilst the topic is not the most wholesome (pun intended) it is good to FINALLY see some spirited discussion again. I am by no means an "oldie" on year as my joining date will testify, but I started posting on here BEACAUSE of the spirited discussion that was obvious in the forums. Some of it was pointless irrelevant mince, and the rest was focused on the sport we all enjoy. BUT most of it was at least spirited. any chance we could return to that?

So given that you're expecting more from Phil because he's been on the forum forever and a day (sorry Phil :p ) essentially what you're saying is that you're just on here to argue and be a pain. The fact that you expect more from someone of his "forum experience" suggests that all you tend to do a lot of arguing on forums. In which case you're telling people to get a life....why?!?!

this one is good:
Hello All,
A few pointers to help us on our way :o)
1. We now have over 60,000 visitors per month to the site from over 35 countries. As many of them are not familiar with the issues raised by certain groups, e.g. junior grievances, county scoring systems, geographical disputes etc. it may be easier for everyone if there was a little bit of background about the subject before the people affected by the issues discuss the problem.
I'm sure this would encourage people who aren't affected to join in as they will then know what is being discussed.
2. Name calling. This is a lack of respect to the individual or groups concerned. It is not pleasant to do this to someone's face but when they are not here to defend themselves it is disrespectful and makes you look silly.
3. Registering multiple usernames. We know who you are ;o) We don't allow multiple registrations.
4. Bad language. There are many children on the site so if you could tone down the language (even if you are feeling a bit wound up!) then it will be a better environment for all.
5. Remember, what you say in a moment of anger will be there for everyone to read even when you and others have calmed down. What you say will be viewable for a long time - make sure you don't something you may regret.
6. And lastly (thank goodness you all say), try and keep all the points relevant to the thread. If you want to move away from the subject then by all means start a new thread.
Phew...!!
I hope everyone is enjoying the site. It is still early days for us and we are all getting to know each other. Don't forget to mail us with any questions, suggestions and ideas.
All the best,
Jonathan Phillips

Terrible post pete, very disapointing.
All i expected from phil was a more articulate post than the one he produced, with over 1000 posts you would think he had grasped how to effectively put his point across without waffling on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and....get the picture :D !
For your information i only post on this forum and do indeed have a life, unlike some on this site.

First of all, I said it suggested, when are you actually going to read something in context?!?!? Re-read your own post and my comment and you'll see what I mean.
You also felt the need to defend yourself over having a life, all fine well and good, but you still felt the need to reply to a post on a "supposedly dead" forum..I'll admit here for my part I never actually bother to check the dates of posts and before you go on to me about replying to you, etc, etc, bear in mind that I am a hypocrite, which comes in handy quite often!! I also tend to oppose exceptionally strong opinions if they miss the other point of view. The first time I got chatting to Phil was through an "arguement" regarding a badminton player's ability!! I'm sure Phil can defend himself more than adequately, but the fact is I'm sure he's here to stay so you might as well get used to the fact!!
On a final note.....I "disappointed you"! Well, you take up a few seconds of my life every now and again and while I've taken the time to reply I'm sorry but I can't return the sentiment!! You just don't have enough of a bearing on me for me to give a damn!
If I were you though, I would be worried, seeing as you have expectations of Phil and feelings of disappointment towards me!! I think you've looked a bit too far into this!! So please, try and accept that Phil is going to remain on this site, that I disagree with your view and that I disagree with yours and lets get back to some badminton!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first time I got chatting to Phil was through an "arguement" regarding a badminton player's ability!!
Indeed it was, I remember that as if it were yesterday. Has you opinion changed now that player has moved into the modeling world to pursue that career as well as badminton?
As Pete points out in a very obvious fashion, we are here to discuss each topic we post in and debate.
The reasons for the debate are many because we are all at different playing standards, we have different jobs, in otherwords - we all see things differently from different viewpoints. I think the Simpsons is great, you might not. (you get it?) We all have differing opinions and will explain them if and when required. The other flip side is we come here to learn from posts, we (well some of us) take posts at face value and learn from them, ie. this site is also a learning resource.
As Bairn Again, Pete, Loafer and Woody have all pointed out recently in various threads, we post our opinions and nothing will change that! Be it site support (unless the ban us), other posters or a karma points system.

Indeed it was, I remember that as if it were yesterday. Has you opinion changed now that player has moved into the modeling world to pursue that career as well as badminton?
Hmm, fair point, I would have to say it hasn't entirely changed, because she did still at least try her hand at the world circuit. I remember at the time you said that she was a crap player and yes I do take your point, in that for the level she played at she wasn't very good and her modelling career seems to suggest that she realised that (plus no doubt she's getting paid better!)
On the other hand I wouldn't refer to her as crap, because were she to turn up at one of the English satellite events, she would be one of the stronger players there and to someone like myself (one of the weaker satellite players) I look up to anyone who is/would be genuinely competitive at that level or above!
The long and short of it is that I see your point, but I would have to be a much better player myself to share that perspective (simply because I am looking at it from the point of view of my own playing ability and not as someone looking at the badminton world as a whole).

At that time a lovely guy who goes by the name Iain who was giving me a bit of coaching to help me get a bit of a game back (I wonder if it worked ;) ) said to me just after that post, do you think you would even get one point off her? and then laughed at my cockiness.
How are you getting on in the satellites??
I have played one in Cornwall at the start of the season and had my arse handed to me in the singles but was ok thanks to my partner in the doubles :o
I was going to try and start playing more but work got in the way a bit (a big bit) would like to do a wee tour next year if I can get a regular doubles partner willing to travel to the events, oh and I also need a good backhand, smash, drop, clear, serve etc.

As far as being factually innacurate, well what can I say I'm human, I'm flawed, how much clearer do I have to make it before you get the picture. As for concentrating on my own failings, I can do that in my own space and time, this being a public forum well, thats an entirely different matter!! As for talking about badminton maybe its you who should start taking their own advice, especially given that so far you've racked up 20 posts, the majority of which are in this thread and are due to you completely missing the point in the first place!!
The nurse will see you now :P

Ahh bairnagain causing trouble and strife over nothing, this all sounds very familar.
i thought it's a strategy to get this thread locked so that we can't have a thread to celebrate the 1000th post's thingy. it's bad to badders.com as a whole, i fink.
