I know I'm new here, but need help

-desperatly.

I love badminton, However I'm not very good, I really want to make my junior high team, and the try-outs are next week, but It is really cold outside and windy so i cant practice. :D SO what should I do? I need some pointers to help me make it. I know how to serve properly, but other then that. I'm pretty much lost. i'm in grade seven, and the grade nines in my school are also in the same tryouts as me, so there's about 5 spots in which I could get in.

HELP!

sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes,

-scrunchie

Cold and Windy outside so you cant practice? What sort of Badminton are you playing? :D

If you are struggling to hit the shuttle and you only have yourself to practice with then i suggest a racket and a shuttle and a big wall. Practice first of all hitting the shuttle fairly high up the wall so it comes back to you with an overhead shot. As you get better and progress smaller faster shots at the wall will help.

Its quite difficult to cyber-coach you to be honest, an hour with you on a court would have you hitting that shuttle just fine, but seeing as you're the other side of the atlantic, its not going to be easy

If you are that keen, take a parent with you or a friend and go and hire a court for an hour, its the best way of learning.

I will take a look and see if i have anything here in my coaches pack that i can scan and post up for you.

hi scrunchie,
1 welcome to badders.com. really glad that you started posting and don't be too worried about the grammer for the moment...the more you post, the better you can write. i'm from Hong Kong where writing in english correctly has always been a challenge.

2 you have only a few days. realitistically speaking, it's real hard to improve to the next level within a very short period of time. however, you have the whole life to try improving given you don't give up. if you can't get in this time, try hard training and if you beat them next time, than you still meet your goal in the short or medium term.

3 given the brief period of time and i don't know the resources/support that you have, before the try-out please consider this:
a) try to make perfect the execution of each skill: the forms and movement of stroke, shot, footwork etc. sometimes the coach selects team member based on how "correct" the skills the individual can do and not on who wins. it takes 5 minutes to learn an incorrect skill but it might take forever to correct it.
b) try to improve your endurance. say, running continuously for 30-35 minutes. very often, the coach wants to select the fitter individual.

anybody else have any idea on the "short-term" thingy.
