Typical arrogant comments with no facts to back up.
Didn't notice Peter Mills at European Juniors, but Helen Ward was seeded and lost in the first round of the singles. In the doubles with Mar. Ag., lost to the second Scottish couple.
Show some respect for players of all nationalities, the Scots respect the English but don't think it always works the other way despite quite a few victories for the smaller nation this year.
Scotland players seem to have performed well at European Juniors this year, how do you think the English have played.

Well based on the Euro Juniors it would be interesting to select a British Junior Team.
How about this to start:
Gents Singles :Raj Ouseph and Calum Menzies
Ladies Singles:Linda Sloan and Eleanor Cox
Gents Doubles:Adcock and Foster/Ellis and George
Ladies Doubles:Mason/ Bankier and Cooper/Boyd
Mixed Doubles:Adcock Wallwark/Foster Agn

It is difficult for Scotland at junior level as any time we beat England they claim it is not their full team.
This argument raged last year on Badders but England declined to play a full match claiming they were more interested in Europe. Unfortunately they did not meet at the European juniors to settle the argument and the way the draw worked out they both ended up losing to Sweden and beating the Czech Republic. Also in their groups they both lost to the top seeds Scotland to Denmark and England to Russia (with those two teams playing the final).
Individual events produced a few Scotland/England clashes: mixed, ladies doubles and ladies singles so far with gents singles to come today.
Rather than just say you think England would win, maybe you could look at the players involved and consider based on the results that a match with the full junior teams at the moment would be very close and difficult to call.

well...
Emma Mason and Imogen Bankier are seed 4th in Europe now.
Kieran merillees playerd chris adcock, and at the time kieran and chris were the best at their age in in Scotland and England, sure enough they played in an english challenger, what was the result?
Kieran was beating chris something like 13 10 in the third and kieran had to full out due to injury.
The way i c it is the English think chris adcock is amazing, but we had some1 who was just about to beat him if he never got injured.
Helen ward, first round effort. so...
Who exactly have england got winning the junior european events?

Opinion, much as I would like to say Scotland would win easily I think you have to be realistic.
England have three finalists in the European Junior U19 championships tomorrow
Gents Singles
Gents Doubles
Mixed Doubles
Think we have to concede they have the best gents singles player in Raj Ouseph and the strongest gents doubles pairing in Adcock/Foster.
Ladies doubles, Scotland had two quarter finalists (one of whom beat English pairing) and Ladies singles our top player beat their top player at the tournament (having already beaten Michelle Cheung this year).
Decider would be mixed who have never played me thinks

well the way i c it is that chris adcock is the first boy from the UK that has ever been double europeon champion at u15, and where was this guy you talking about when that happened?. and actually he didnt pull out chris beat him 15-12 and that is a fact!and by the way remind my who won that tournament and how many scottish were there?

Great player that Chris Adcock is and great achievement tho it was, winning an 8 nations u15 title does not make you European champion. There are more than 8 nations in Europe.
Raj Ouseph on the other hand is a true European Junior champion and very convincingly.

haha, double european champion??
rite then...
The last few points were half hearted as he was injured.
My point isn't that Scottish are better than England just that we're definetly catching up.
Well done to Raj aswell, but well done to Callum who beat Ulrik Nielsen, apparantly tipped to win it by a few.

chris is a great player, and yes he did win the 8nations... but as Thumb says, there is more than 8 nations in Europe. then some wud say that the 8 nations competing at the 8nations, is the 8 best in europe... but how can one be sure bout that? russia is officially the 2nd best european team in u19 and bulgaria is no. 7.. and many of the other teams got a single player or two who is about the same level as the best brits, danes, germans etc. we saw that at the european u19 championships last week, where among others, czech republic, belarus, russia, and bulgaria won medals.. even countries as poland and portugal were coles to bringing home medals... so you cant say that chris adcock is the u15 european doubles champion.. it simply isnt true or fair to say...
well, back to the topic...
scotland impressed many people at the european juniors, especially the danes (including me)... they were 1 matchpoint away from taking a 2-0 lead in their group-tie against denmark... callum menzies beat our 2nd best mens singles, ulrik nielsen.. w.briggs & i.bankier beat the top swedish pairing in XD, who actually beat wallwork/adcock in the team event! l. sloan beat elanor cox and two WDs from scotland reached the quarters...
scotland is still not at the same level at england, who won 1 gold and 2 silver medals, but especially the girls are catching up... the scottish girls actually made better results than the english! except for jenny in the mixed..

Not really being mean but being practical!
Where would a combined group train?
What would the criteria be for being selected?
What are the aims?
Who would coach them?
Would you relocate just so your child could play badminton, giving up your house, job, friends so your child could play a sport? Would the player relocate to a boarding school or go and live in a training village just to get into a squad?
Is the squad a 50/50 split? Where are the Welsh and Irish going to fit in? What happens if the squad is chosen on merit and 90% are from one country?
Why is the squad training for a particular competition and not all competitions? Bearing in mind players train to peak about 3 times per season. Would the aim in that case be international senior competitions after they turn 18 or the olympics.
Who would the coach be, an amalgamation of all nations with many coaches? Then who would replace these better coaches after they go to train a UK squad.
Would the squad and partnerships be split for things like the Commonwealth games?
If you have good answers please feel free to post them not just here but to whoever is in charge of UK badminton, oh thats right there isn't anyone
