View Full Version : Badminton clubs SE London/Kent?

Kit

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help. I've been looking for a badminton club in SE/London or - limited by transport links - NW Kent. I've had a look at the North Kent Badminton Association website and it has a list of clubs. However, I can't find out any information about these clubs - I'd rather not have to ring people at home if there's any other way of finding out when they play and what the standard is like.

I'm quite rusty, haven't played for seven years, but am intermediate level. I found a local club from the list last week, but when I turned up I was told it was closed membership, despite having exchanged emails first. I'd rather not repeat the experience, so if anyone knows of clubs looking for new members, that would be great. A Thursday or Friday evening would suit me best if it's an option.

Thanks

Kit

Kit,

ParkLangley Club in Beckenham has sessions for all standards of play and is a 3 court facility that

regularly hosts Kent County Matches. It has a website that you can go to that will give you contact

information.

If you want to go further afield, come down to Northfleet Badminton Club that has a thriving Badminton Team

and boasts an array of county and Former Internationals. The coach there Vance Young can also help if

you want to improve your game

Thanks Rhombus,

Do you have a website address for Park Langley? I have tried googling it, but no luck... I think Northfleet's too far, sadly - I live in Greenwich, and am limited to places easily accessible by public transport.

Kit,
have googled as well and can't find it either. Tony Beddoe is the Club Manager there and can be contacted on telephone No. 0208 658 9028. The clubs e-mail is parklangleyclub@btclick.com

Regards

Rhombus.

PS. Have you tried Greenwich Borough who play in the North west Kent leagues.

hello kit, here's my two penneth. i too am limited by public transport but have a little knowledge of clubs in the south east and kent (where i live). i haven't managed to find a club in Kent that is EASILY accessible by public transport and alas that includes Park Langley and Northfleet BC. I tend to play in either Lewisham, Catford or Crystal Palace which, strange but true, I can access from Kent with ease!

I am a member of Crofton Arrows who play in Lower Sydenham on Wednesdays (202 bus route or various buses from Lewisham / Catford). I play at another club near to Catford Bridge railway station on a Thursdays and on Tuesdays I play singles at Crystal Palace (202 or 122 bus route).

There are also clubs in Eltham - details on request if you're interested. maybe let me know.

good luck.

Park Langley is in Beckenham, so see my previous reply. It should cater for all standards. However if you want top standard county badminton, cross the border and go to Surrey....... Coulsden and Purley Badminton Club is probably the closest.

Hi Tango,

I know this post is a long time ago and I hope that you are still a member of this forum.

You mentioned that there is a badminton club near Catford Bridge railway station. I was wondering if you could post the details here for me as I would like to start playing again.

regards

Shane

Hi again!

after my last post on this site, i was able (thanks to the members help here) join park langley badminton club - i recommend this to any readers.... ;)

however, i have now moved out of beckenham, and into Gravesend, and was hoping once again that someone could help with a list of a few clubs in the area - i am mainly looking for clubnights, as my skills are ok, but am not at a league standard just yet....

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Most of the clubs in Gravesend are match clubs only. Try Longfield or Cliffe Badminton Club or the badminton club up at Istead Rise Community centre. Sorry I can't be of more help.

hello adegooner, the only club that i used to play with in the gravesend area play at Cascades Leisure Centre, Thong Lane Gravesend Kent DA12 4LG Tel: 01474 337471. they used to play on a wednesday evening but you will need to call cascades to check that they still play. there could be other clubs who play there also.
the other place is Northfleet Youth and Community Centre - yes they are a competitive club but run coaching sessions on a Sunday so maybe it's worth perusing their web site and maybe giving it a go.... http://www.northfleetbadminton.com/home.html.
Northfleet Sports & Youth Centre, Hall Rd, Northfleet, Gravesend, Kent DA11 8AJ Tel: 01474 351451

good luck.

You'd be saving money then tricky compared to the rest.

Maybe you should ask by the points played ?

Mind you that could go against you, if the number of shuttles destroyed is worked into the equation, its all about cost effectiveness.

It will cost £5 for a two hour session of Badminton, and you can play as many games as can be fitted into that two hour session, and you can use as many shuttlecocks as you need for your games.:)

the tango doll's two penneth - sounds like defamation to me! i gauge the chosen one is better as a comedian than he is a badminton player.

5 pounds each game is a very good price given you have unlimited shuttlecocks!

dicky,
why don't you start a thread about footers?
