After 25 years playing this was the first time this has happened to me.
At a league match with 3 courts , A visiting lady refused to play on any court other than the one she started on.
her argument was "that playing away was handicap enough, she should not be forced to get used to three courts" (also this is an old rule)

At a league match with 3 courts.

i. should the home team rotate the courts?

ii. should the visitors rotate ?

iii. can the home side choose anything they like ?

What do you think

strange.. id say i suppose for 'fairness or sportsmanship' the home side should rotate.. doesnt mean i would however :p

ive never came across that before either

Would of thought the home side can choose whatever they want.
Although if you have courts that are very different i.e. background etc, then in the interest of sportsmanship then they could get used to it.
How old was this lady....I'd like to guess that she's an older lady....and were they the "underdogs" expecting to lose/scrap! Did you win?

We have 3 courts at our club available for each match. Ideally the home team should rotate. However this never happens as matches can be decided over 2/3 sets and your opponents may not be available to play if
like alot of teams you stick to the order of play i.e. 1,6,8...2,4,9... 3,5,7.
These days your lucky to have 3 courts in which to choose, some 25 years ago 95% of matches were in local 1 court church halls or clubs that only had the 1 court. This would mean that matches could gone on to
2,3,4 o'clock in the morning, if all the games went to 3 sets....ah the good old days. I'm sure the old bag who was complaining about moving court would'nt want to go back to those days again.

We sometimes have 3 courts for a match. When this happens, we let the visitors stay on the same court whilst we rotate.
I think it's a nice gesture to the opposition, although i've never heard anyone moan about it not happening before when 3 courts are available in other clubs.

It is a shame to hear of something like this happening. Unfortunately the weird and wonderful always come out to play in league matches!! The sad thing is that its incidents like that which give badminton a negative image and probably contribute (on a much larger scale) to less badminton being on TV!! (I'm talking attitude and perception here, not this incident on its own) but it is a total shame.

I can understand one of the points suggesting that there may have been a huge difference between courts and if this were the case then yes, maybe there would have been more of an advantage for the home team. I'd agree that some venues/courts may be different for some players, I have my preferred places to play, but overall its how you're playing on the day and quite often disliking a court or venue may well have more to do with previous results there than the venue!! For example I like Cambridge Open and Harrogate Open: Harrogate has great courts but is very enclosed due to 3 courts and benches between them as the only seating area, so can feel very cramped. Cambridge is played in a very light hall, so its often hard to see the shuttle! Hertfordshire I don't like as much even though its bigger and has better courts and lighting than the others!! In my case that is to do with results more than anything else!!

Yes we have won the league title for the first time in our 30 year history :D .
It has been a good all round team effort with, unusually, the same six players playing in every match.
It felt so good winning the game which gave us the title that I embarrassed myself by shaking hands even though we had still got the second game to play. The opposition pair didn't know what was going on and we had to apologise and calm down for the second half. Still feels good one week later.
