***Disclaimer*** To the site support guys here @ Badders.com --> I'm very grateful for your discussion boards here, and I've met a few fantastic members who have kept me entertained on my own forum at RacquetChat.com, which I set up for my son. This is in NO way an attempt to steal users from Badders -- I really really like the users here -- they are so much more mature than "other sites".
Let's cut to the chase -- I've set up a product review section at www.RacquetChat.com -- I know Badders doesn't have one, so I think our sites will be mutually compatible. I've added 130+ products this week... mainly racquets, and I know there's SOOO much more to add. But it would be fantastic if you guys could come check it out -- even register and write some reviews/ratings!!! Michael and I would be very grateful... :D
If you come and post messages on the forum, I'd consider that as a "bonus" and would be grateful.
In exchange, I'd of course, still lurk and send the odd spam here as well :)
Thanks for reading :)

hey Jonn,
for the goodness of your son, please don't encourage him using the internet...i've spent load of time talking to the numerous educators...unanimously they agreed that internet-using is not good for kids.
example one: just compare books with internet, books are without any movement but internets are fun filled with color, videos, pseudo-communications, games...when kids are exposed too much in internet, they tend to be less interested in studying books, playing real life kids' games...affecting the cognitive development in the long run...
if you are interested in posting, instead of putting the posts in your forum, put a few here....hehehe :D

Better not let him travel in a car either as they are far too dangerous and a silly invention. While you are at it, get some new educators as your current lot don't know their derriere from their elbow.

I have to say, I normally agree with you (to some extent at least) Red, but this is truely ridiculous.
I agree there are some dubious sites etc on the internet but suggesting that it is BAD for kids is just plain stupid.
I would argue that like a huge number of things, the internet is actually GOOD for kids, as long as it is monitored by the parents.

I whole heartedly disagree -- I think you're probably trolling for a response :) But seriously, a statement like that is akin to saying "all video games are evil" and "television is bad". I severely limit the amount of computer time my kids have, and they are monitored. Besides, they are so busy with other activities that they don't have a lot of time for mischief anyway.
As for posting here, I will continue to post at both places. Like I've said before (elsewhere), I created racquetchat so my son and his buddies could post in a moderated environment. And I never expected to have met some really neat people from around the world as well.
I guess your son won't be posting @ RC.com ;) -- but you are always welcome to !!

Well said racquetchat.
Yes of course children should be permitted to access the internet but it must be strictly monitored.

1 in the 17th century when a guy said that the world was a round one, they said that he was nuts and wanted to put him to death.
2 in this forum, it might sound stupid to you. but if you take a look at the scientific research result about behavoral problems with the internet, tv and vedio games on kids, your view point might change(especially if you have kids and want them good)in encouraging kids(or cultivating kids) to use internet.
3 really glad that you compared car with internet surfing, good thinking. lol

With all due respect Red, you can't believe everything you read on the internet :) Being involved in medical research, I can also say you can't believe everything published in the medical literature as well. I always preach "moderation" -- anything taken to "excess" is always bad.
Now, the sad question: why won't you have much time to post in the coming 2 years?

1 moderation is the key. i know you'll do well
2 i'm taking a M Edu(in christian counselling) part-time...classes, assignments, quizes, exams and internship...if anyone has taken any courses from psychology, he will know that the psychologists(those psy professors) won't let ppl get the subject passed easily...after getting the degree, i think i'll do some sat/sun community work to help the needies
3 nevertheless, i visited your site regularly(sometimes check in) and found it entertaining(i like the equipment session but i think it's only a start)...may be i'll post there during term break

A WEST NYACK, N.Y. MAN was found dead at his computer apparently the victim of trying to keep up with too many professional forums. Childress H. Wanamaker, 54, an account executive at a New York-based new media company, died of starvation according to the West Nyack coroner's office. Wanamaker's emaciated body was found by Loraine, his wife of 26 years, who told MediaPost she had been bringing her husband meals on plastic trays for weeks, but that he never took the time to eat them.
"He was glued to his computer 24/7," she said tearfully. "He was so afraid he was going to miss an opportunity to contribute a comment or start a discussion, that he just stopped eating." She added that Wanamaker's last words were "OK Picard, stick that in your pipe and smoke it..."
Computer forensic specialists from SUNY at Cortland discovered that Wanamaker was subscribed to 48 different forums and networking communities including one apparently having to do with the elderly called "oldtimers" and another apparently limited to just 100 people. They also found that he posted a comment into one forum or another on an average of two per minute every hour of the day for the past seven weeks.
"He felt under terrible pressure to be part of the online community," said his son, Lucian, who says he tried several times to get his father's attention and lure him away from the computer. "The only time he even looked up was when I told him I had seen Dane Madsen trying to steal his car out of the driveway."
Police found what appeared to be an organization chart taped to the wall of Wanamaker's den with lines linking small photos of people unknown to the police including a Tom Hespos and an Adam Boettiger. Neither is considered a suspect in Wanamaker's death.
"Once, I thought I had him," said Lucian Wanamaker, "when I said that mom had made cookies, but half out of his chair, he just sat back down mumbling something about two Roman gods; I believe it was Jupiter and Atlas having some sort of titanic battle. 'Let them eat PIE,' he bellowed banging on his keyboard."
Computer forensic specialists reported that there was no order or continuity to Wanamaker's forum postings. "It looks like he just sort of randomly commented on whatever was in the discussion string at the time," said Stephen Hall, CUNY-Cortland adjunct professor of intemperate and impulsive behavior. "He let nothing go by unchallenged by his own point of view, nor failed to respond to any other community member asking for advice or a new job. This consumed not only 24 hours a day, but also, apparently, his physical health."
In what must be a record, Wanamaker was linked into to over 15,250 other community members, many of whom he exchanged notes with daily. He also contributed to 375 blogs and was expected to start an online column about the impact of interactive communications on health, when he died.
A virtual memorial service will be held online at a date to be determined.
