An interesting appointment
I notice that Clives badminton experience is carefully mentioned, however apart from stating the size of the School at which he is head, ther is no mention of any commercial business experience ! This is not meant as a criticism but just an observation.
Whatever Clive brings to the job, I wish him well

perhaps his school background is a sign that badminton engalnd plan to focusthe future of badmitnon on schools and getting youngsters intersted in the sport early

Or it could be an indication that the corridors of power at the Badminton England HQ are full of screaming children
At least he will have vast experience of dealing with those who "spit the dummy" :p
Clive Ricks said today: “I am looking forward very much to my new responsibilities. As a keen sportsman, and especially in badminton, I am determined to help raise the numbers of people playing this great sport and also to enhance the standards and results.”
I wonder just how HE is going to enhance the standards and results other than by proxy, what badminton specific coaching qualifications does he have or does he mean he is going to re-structure the coaching dept and hope they achieve more?

My biggest concern and the part that makes no sense (based on the info provided) is his lack of commercial experience. there have been no end of discussions and articles around the lack of exposure, getting more money into the sport etc etc. I fail to see how a head teacher will adress these CRITICAL issues.
I do not mean any of this personally, I am sure that he will bring an enormous amount to the organisation and I am sure this area has been considered so he must have the requisite abilities, it is just not apparent from the info I have seen.

I think this goes without saying, however, we need to give him a chance to prove himself now as he hasn't even started the job officially!!!!!!!! Many of the business managers I know are useless so commercial experience isn't the be all, the key will be his all-round understanding of ther sport and the ability to deliver.

Mr Banks,
I totally agree, nothing worse than damming someone before they have had a chance to perform. As i said, a concern only, not a judgement!

Anyone seen any articles about the new boss in the national press? Bit of a "litmus test" on the new BE perhaps?

hong kong has just changed the Minister of Health for less than a year. the new one is called York Chow. the change made a huge diff in health related projects...many of the projects that were sitting around or discussing for many many years with no foreseeable future suddenly became a reality and moved forward quickyly. this remind me of true leadership...really hope the new boss will do a lot of good things at good speed to the badminton community

He doesn't need to be doing a good job but he does need to be seen to be doing a good job.

Come to think of it, I haven't heard him say a word, or seen him. Did he actually exist?

He is a real person but well noticed on the complete lack of media exposure and anyhting coming from him.
Maybe a settling in period?

It was announced on the Badminton England website at the end of July that Clive Ricks and Badminton England had parted company for contractual reasons.
He did come down to Somerset and to many other counties to introduce himself. He seemed clued in. Guess the search is
on for someone else now
