Congrats LJB! I noticed that Lee Jae Bok has returned as coach for the national team over there in the UK.

If you get a chance, check out LJBs badminton training videos. Even tho' his English ain't all that great, he does an excellent job of getting his (fairly contemporary) points across. I first learned about "finger power" and some other techniques about 10 years ago in his Play to Win video tape. I had already been using a very similar squeeze technique for tennis, but had been unaware of its very effective use in badminton until I saw his tape in the mid 1990s.

You can see more of his current video clips at his www.ibbs.tv (http://www.ibbs.tv) web site. It's kind of a pay-per-view thing... you pay a nominal fee for a 5-day online access to selected video clips. I think that you'll still need a fast (broadband) connection to view most of the vids. However there are several FREE training vids that you can download so that you can watch them at any time w/o having to worry about a slower (56k) connection.

Hi Greg

Thanks for the great plug

We would like to do more filming for ibbs, possibly later in the year. Whilst Lee is busy with Badminton England we hope to film some clips for ladies singles, doubles and mixed. We would also like to feature some ex-international players.

Lee is anxious that both the ibbs and Liba websites are regularly updated.
From time to time I hope to be able to publish news items on both the websites about how Lee is getting on.

Best regards

It would be nice if Lee could concentrate on his full time job....!!This is a very good point (see we can agree Admiral  )

Working full-time and having a commercial sideline is a hard balance to make and one will suffer at the hand of the other, unless the commercial side is managed by someone else and Lee remains the brand owner by name. However, there could still be a conflict of interest and if there are problems at BE then the first accusation will be that there is a lack of focus by Lee, this is a difficult one!

Incredible Michael!!

Lee is over here for the money, just like he was last time......he will disappear when a better offer comes along - mark my words!!

Not sure what all the fuss is about here, gents. I detect some bitterness on the Admiral's part. I don't really think that Lee is actually responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the LIBA & IBBS sites at all. To this point, there is a letter at both sites where Lee mentions his new appointment & says that he regrets that this will mean a dimininshed involvement with IBBS & LIBA. In fact, at the LIBAuk site (http://www.LIBAuk.com), the only content currently at that site is the letter itself. The following is an excerpt from the IBBS letter:

"From 1st of June I will be taking up a post with Badminton England ( formely BaofE ) to help coach the National squad. In many ways this has been a difficult decision for me to make because it will limit my personal involvement with IBBS.TV and Liba. "

Not sure about the details of Lee's previous arrangement was with BaofE. However, I would think that if he had not honored his contract at that time, he would not have been asked again by BE. I'm pretty sure that the bulk of the vids of LJB at the IBBS site were done before this year. Since ALL of the IBBS vids with Lee were done before he even accepted the BE post, why the remark, "It would be nice if Lee could concentrate on his full time job....!!"?

Anyway, how about we get back on-topic here & discuss the videos. This alternate topic would fit better in the JohnG thread (http://www.badders.com/forum/showthread.html?t=1463) on England appointments (http://www.badders.com/forum/showthread.html?t=1463).

As we know it is Skates and Sunny that do most of the IT work for Lee, it's not as if Lee is sitting there uploading material however he is somewhat required to take part in the videos

Skates, I found the DVD set a bit basic and probably aimed at beginners. Will Lee be planning to move on a level or two to take this almost foundational set to a higher level?

Hi Phil

Well Lee himself will not be taking part in any filming while contracted to Badminton England. I know he wants to put all his efforts into coaching the England squad. All the Liba courses for the summer have been cancelled and I have taken the Liba site content off line. Ibbs do hope to do more filming in his absence. From a technical point of view we would like to improve the sound quality by using radio mikes. We would also like to introduce a fourth camera for tracking and getting better angles. In terms of content we would be filming some Ladies singles, doubles and mixed clips. There are currently no clips on the ibbs site for ladies and we would like to put that right. We'd also like to produce some clips on tactics and advanced play using some ex international players.

Making a new set of videos showing more advanced techniques featuring Lee himself will, unfortunately have to wait until his work with the National side is finished.

Best regards

Good point about the noise, for me it was a big turn off because my hearing is not that good but the echo's are very noticable and at stages Lee's voice rises quite a bit as he is putting an emphasis on something which takes you by surprise a bit.

Radio mikes would be a good idea but as someone else pointed out the budget might not have been big enough for these at the time.

Never mind the English squad, get me my technical details on DVD, quick, smart!! :p ;)

From what i read, I think:

I think this goes without saying, however, we need to give him a chance to prove himself now as he hasn't even started the job officially!!!!!!!!

Based on Lee's past relationship with the British Badminton, it seems to me that Lee is well-hated...let's wait and see...and I do believe that Lee will learn from the past and will devote his efforts to bring out the best from the athelets

dear gregr,
thank you so much for the information and link and with excellent video quality...they r so good that i'm thinking seriously to order the DVDs...after seeing these videos, i don't mind if Lee goes filming more(during his leisure time, of course), if the videos r provided to the general badminton community, free of charge...hehehe

by the way, my son's EX-HK champ coach stress a lot on using "finger power" during training session and my son started to "teach" ppls around him to use "fingers power"

Admiral

So what if Lee is 'just over here for the money'.and knowing the man, I have to say that is highly unlikely.

But if he were......one could level that same accusation at Rexy !!!!....or Asger....of Finn...or Yvonne.....or Park !!!! .If you have the best people for a job.you have to accept that they will also get offers from other sources....just like insurance clerks, computor engineers and engineers.

Since I live on the West coast of the US, I'd have a rather difficult time to find out what is really going on in the "back rooms" of UK badminton politics. I can only go by what I've seen in Lee's excellent videos & what I've heard in various forums.

Lee's interaction with the British players in Play to Win appears to be congenial & very positive. Most of the responses to Lee that I've seen in Badders & all of the numerous responses that I've seen in the BadmintonCentral forums have been very positive.

Is Lee really well-hated???

Over in the BC forums, Lee has been very generous in dolling out free advice to those that have asked. I have personally received advice, both on the forum & thru a couple of PMs, from Mister Bok. It is my experience that Lee appears to be genuinely interested in establishing a rapport with the badminton community.

Regardless of his motives, as JohnG says, "So What...". Lee is a businessman as well as a talented human being who willing to share his expertise & knowledge with the badminton community. We can all benefit from this symbiotic relationship... Lee, UK badminton and the larger badminton community.

It sounds like your ISP connection speed is too slow... 56k modem? To play the vids directly from the IBBS web site, you need a faster (broadband) connection. Try it from a PC that has a faster connection... at a public library, a friend's PC, etc...

how odd! the problem that you described is the very same that others & I experienced with a 56k connection. however, when I've tried the videos with faster connections, no problems were observed. perhaps there is a problem with your broadband, your version of media player, or some other hardware or software problem with your system. try contacting IBBS tech support.

Lee is indeed a very kind and generous person, I had a nice phone conversation with him last year where he didn't know me from jack and was very helpfull and supportive.

Others might be right in saying that Lee is only in it for the money but he has to make a living and is doing that in the way that suits him best, go and criticise a premiership footballer for doing the same and making about 20 times more than Lee will make at BE.

Is Lee not entitled to make a living in the same way the rest of the population does? i.e a better offer comes along and you either take it or decline.

Since he's a key guy in the Brit's badminton community now, is it possible for you to invite him to generously get involve in badders.com?

He was probably after your money mate....wake up!!

For all you Bok lovers.......he was here for a number of years coaching the National team...can you let me know what advances he made?

Thanks
