1 thank you for your kind concern to my putting of average of 2.17 posts per day here... so you believe that i don't do anything else exept posting????

2 well, i don't watch tv. instead, i try my best to practice my informal english(formal enghlish is easy, i can publish reports or produce advisory letters that r of listing in the stock exchange quality) . however, learning and understanding of those "verbal", "jokes", "slangs", "idioms", "jargons" etc. are extremely difficult and important to me because as I'm an public accountant/counsultant to US, UK, Asutralian Nationals, I have to communicate(tel or meeting) with them very frequently. although they notice that i'm a chinese, they would expect that i can understand what they are talking and give response.
Joining forums is one of the best way to learn informal english. after reading and posting, i found myself improved a lot in the communication with the foreigners.

3 thank you again for your compliment that i rule this forum by putting 2.17 posts here per day...anyway, besides posting i have to work, study part-time, take care of my son(together with wife), participate in social gatherings

4 i also notice that a man died from spending too much time on forums...how many posts had that guy posted during his career as a poster?... btw, i also heard that many ppl were dead after drinking water

Red, would they not notice you are Chinese because of your accent?

In fact, are you Chinese? I always thought you were UK (well HK UK anyway)

Mainland or just because of the handover?

Very true that when learning a foreign language the formal bit is easy but it is the slang and other excentricities that are difficult to master because they mean different things to what they should in the formal way of the dialect.

dear phil,
thanks for asking.
1 ppl(if they r globalized enough) would notice that i'm a 100% Hong Kong Chinese from my accent...but it's difficult for ppl to find out my nationality if i write in formal english

2 the queen generously gave my family UK passports in the year of 1997, before handovering HK to the communist; and i plan to retire in London to do her(or the King) a favour in return...hehehe...there might be Estate Duty on my family when i/my wife join the angel's chior

3 so you guys pls help me...use more slang/dialects/idoms...i have a few dictionaries...i don't mind if those slangs r from Scotland
