Hey everyone,

Firstly a simple introduction,

I'm Mike, 22 from cwmbran, south wales. Looking to start taking badminton very serioulsy just hope i havent left it too late.

Play for a club in lantarnam on a sunday and monday, a cwmbran club on a tuesday and a cardiff club on a wednesday. Im in the B side at lantarnam and find that i dont get enough games in there and no actual practice at all. Other 2 clubs are more a social level where i just try to push myself as much as i can.

Im looking for a training partner who would mind helping out someone who trying to become the best he can be (god that sounded cheesy )

I dont mind a bit of travel cwmbran, newport or cardiff somewhere around there.

Would also like a coach. I dont want to keep on playing thinking what im doing is right, if its not.

Looking to play tournaments everything i can get into the better.

Any suggestions guys and gals would be gratefully recieved.

I would say im a 'ok player. i havent really played a tournament to judge myself. playing in the clubs i dont like to judge myself as playing with a different partner every week seems impossible to get a routine going with the person in the 5minute warm up.

So anything you might find helpful please contact me asap

Many thanks all

:) As an English coach I'm too far away to help. In fact the Welsh are doing better than the rest of the UK in areas like disability. You do need a coach. It is quality play not quantity that counts as you correctly say. If you can't get a coach or a genuinly knowledgeable (that means well coached) play mate then get the Emms Rich. coaching DVD from the National Badminton Centre. A word of caution. A good coach will watch how you work & interpret the DVD to prevent you from trying to do the right thing in the wrong way which leads to injury & inefficiency - even bad tempered frustration. Warm up & down. Allow enough recovery time etc etc etc...
And, enjoy your badminon
best wishes
Chris

Why don't you contact Irwansyah in Cardiff. He is a fantastic coach and is a former top 20 in the world from Indonesia. His phone number is 07900690037. Good luck!

Don't know if you are still looking but Cwmbran Nomads are currently paying for the services of a Welsh Badminton Union Coach.

The club plays and has coaching on a Friday night between 8pm and 10 (the start time depends on ability). I guess from what you say that you're a fair standard so it would be a 8 pm start.

If you are interested drop the club chairman a email. The email address can be found on the club website www.nomadsbadminton.org.uk
