Anyone playing this mixed doubles tourny at the end of April?

Would like to give it a go but how is it structured?

Oh and if there are any females looking for a mixed partner let me know, my usual one has opted to enter with a weaker player

Yeh i'll be playing. I played the Level Doubles in December and had a lot of fun, played with a guy who i never even knew and we reached the final, but had some great games along the way.

Your partner is drawn before the event, and you stay with them all day. The aim is to make the partnerships fair, so a handicap system is devised, and you stick to it from the start. i.e. my partner and i wer 0, but some are -2...some were even -5, so they're really playing catch up in all their moatches.

Matches are timed at 15 minutes or 1st to 21, and you have several games in your pool, before the top 2 pairs, usually, go through and form the quarter final knockout, based on matches won and points scored i think. Prizes for winners and runners-up.

Then a social function at night somewhere. £10 for the event, £10 for the function, where there is food, prizes etc. Its a pretty good tournament and hopefully more graduates can play.

Colin Bell at Badminton Scotland will have the forms out soon i think, or you can reach him at colinbell@badmintonscotland.org.uk just to be sure.

Plus, Sunday 23rd is my birthday, so the night out on Saturday should be a bit special.

Have sent Colin an e-mail so just waiting to hear back.

If it's a handicap then i'll be a plus number of points (prob about 10)

A party you say?...................................

Do you register as a pair and are split up or given a handicap as a pairing or do you register as an individual Jamie?

Also i have something to pass on if you are interested in training full time, might be right down your street, if you want the info just send me a PM and i'll give you the details.

Enter as an individual and they sort out the partner. Not heard anything about the entries yet. Colin is the manager of the Scottish Uni's team to take on the other home nations in April, so i know he's been busier than expected with that. WIll hear something soon i think.

Entry form hasn't been released but am sure it will be soon.

They work out all the handicaps after they do the pairings so it can be a bit of a curse sometimes if you get a really strong partner cos you're always playing catch up!! But it's a really good laugh and you'll have fun.
