Can anyone explain how Richard Vaughan gets selected for Wales in the Commonwealth Games when he pulls out of many matches that he plays before the end-whether it be team events or tournaments. At the Games he retired from the Mens Singles apparently with an ankle injury in the first game but the next day in the Mixed Doubles he was playing as if nothing was wrong with him. He is taken to Team Events and then does not play. All the while a great deal of money is spent on this guy and other players are being left out of the team. He gets fiunding but dictates who he will play with in training.

I'm guessing cos he's vastly more talented than any other male player in Wales??

Or England for that matter! Been very unlucky with injuries.

At least he has talent......can you tell me how Morgan and Phillips can represent Wales......they are a reasonable pair, who can't even dominate the English Satellite circuit.....on occasions using ridiculously foul serves to win an event.
I saw them play at the All England and thought they were part of the entertainment....like at the basketball in America where they have some guy doing back flips at half time!

Is thee really no other doubles players in Wales other than Lewis and Hughes???
But then other players of Kerry Ann Sheppard, Liam Ingram and Richard Williams are no better?

Also what has happened to Paul Le Tocq? He was travelling all over the world for Wales, seems to have dissapeared....Is he injured?

Bit harsh on Morgan&Phillips! not their fault that nobody can beat them, more a problem with a lack of good doubles pairs, they are ranked 45 in the world! qualified for the All England! Not really their fault?

Not many players in Wales, a result of importing England Z team players over years which has killed off actual Welsh Juniors.

Le Toq now back playing for Guernsey........I think.

I am just writing in as I have been told today by one of the people that work in Welsh badminton that I have been mentioned on this site. I would just like to say to Welshnut that the post from Felix Moore has absolutely nothing to do with me and I would appreciate it in future if you would find out your facts first.

I have no problem at all with Richard being selected for Wales as he is by far the best male singles player to have come out of the UK since I have been playing badminton.

If I have a problem about something I would not hide behind a different name as I think this is a bit gutless and you cannot really take these opinions seriously if they cant even say who they are.

About the part saying I should go back to England, my father is Welsh which makes me half Welsh so I am actually alot more qualified to play for Wales than many of the foreign players playing for other countries.

I hope this has cleared up this matter. I can understand how Welshnut may have thought it was me but maybe next time it would be better if you check out all your facts before you throw around accusations.

LOL

ah yes Wales have so many good players???? :D i am surprised they have enough for a team nevermind argue over whos selected.

I think Richard has been ill of late, read it on his website www.richardvaughan.net does not sound so nice. Its a bit sad other welsh/english players complain whoever they are.

Richard has been very good, but England have some good singles players now in Smith, Ouseph, Kidd, etc so the UK is looking quite strong again in mens singles.

I think it is a shame that Wales really doesnt have the pick of the talent at the moment. I cant comment on Vaughn because Ive never seen him play, but you dont hear much about him at the mo...

Perhaps we should take a leaf from scotish rugby and ditch the regulars and start picking people from the rest of the country - not just South Wales - trust me the M4 is not the official geographical and political boundary! At least if we started picking outside the "safety zone" it would get great publicity. I admit we may not have any greater success in the short term but in the long term, it would have to be better for the sport.

Also, as I said in a previous topic starter, I know people who are coming through the ranks but have to pay for the privilegde of being in the team! Not to mention travel expenses going to and from "compulsary" team meetings/trials...

The sport needs to be spread across Wales and the competition needs to be opened up and made more accessible for future development!!! Not that I know how this would be achieved though...
