Hi there,
String tensions preferences are individual to everyone, some people like a fairly loose tension of 18-21, where'as club/county players range from 20-30 psi, where'as some top players have their rackets strung at as much as 33psi.
In summary, horses for courses - each to their own, find a tension which you like, and stick with it.

just to add that if you bought a racket from a shop in the UK it should be somewhere between 18-20 lbs, the average for a club player is between 21-23 lbs and is fairly normal.
Problem is that after this range the sweetspot diminishes and your technique needs to be spot on to make the most of the increased tension, also the gauge of the strng needs to obe taken into account.
And sme of us have tried tensions in excess of those listed above
I was stupid in my youth and went for 40lbs on a Carlton AS1, ah.............. the stuff of legend ;)
