i wonder whether badminton is actually the focal point of small section of members on badders.com when they TRY to thread, using what grey matter they have between their ears.
I cannot believe that you come onto a site that offers the chance to re-live or share news of the game we love and you end up with low life scum flinging racist bigoted comments about!!!
I would urge site support to consider their position on this. if these comments were made in the public domain, the police would no doubt be contacted. You know the culprits concerned. you will receive praise for naming and shaming those concerned.
this is not the theatre for anger against colour, race or creed. in all my years palying the game, i never once heard any comments to myself or others of the sort made recently on badders.com. a great shame.

Hear Hear Soup.

I couldn't agree more.

A lot of threads descend to slagging each other off. Its something I have raised before but been accused of being an old !!!!.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news soup but in the real world this is called banter and although some take it further than others it is very much a part of everyday life i'm afraid.

You've never heard banter like this? Have you never been to a football match?

And as far as on the badminton court i have heard worse so please dont make out as if this is a limited once in a lifetime occurence, it is the norm rather than the exception out there in the real world.

Sorry to say :(

disagree phil. in all my years playing the game at all levels, i never heard some of the comments made that feature on badders.com.
even facing our fiercest rivals south of the border, i never was taunted or wound up (probably because they were winning anyway!!!!!)
i am well aware that when the likes of tommy hepburn runs his club there will be a great atmosphere and friendly banter. you may call yourself a veteran but don't confuse banter with crossing into something different.
imagine on the tee if monty turned round to tiger woods with some of the remarks made on here? cringe worthy

Actually Soup i hve played in lower level tournaments all around the UK (becasue im a **** player) and the banter is every where. even with people i've never met before. After the game we are all good friends and have a drink or two.

If you have never heard comments like this it's most probably because the game is somewhat psycological now and you were a wee precious wallflower back in your day.

And Mr Hepburn would indeed like to hear from you again as you have previousely mentioned, if you need his no send me a PM. But have to warn you Tom uses some colourfull language too and you might have to shield your ears ;)

And yes the atmosphere in his club is great becasue we make it that way, insults and all!

:) Phil, I had to laugh when i saw your comments re colourful language and Tommy Hepburn in the same sentence. I can still feel my ears ringing from his not so subtle verbal abuse, but he certainly knew how to gee you up and get you mentally prepared for a game. Probably it was because i never used Carlton in his days when he was their Scottish Rep and also my Under 18 Scottish Team manager!! I was the only one in the team with Yonex.

I can see where Soup is coming from re comments made by Wolfie etc but these message boards are full of it these days. But being Scottish we're thick skinned and should be used to the verbal slanging and those who do it are just doing it to wind anyone up.

Phil if you do happen to bump into the afore mentioned Mr Hepburn, pass on my and my brothers regards and hope he is well! Had some great trips with him to various junior tournaments around Britain, a fantastic trip to Norway for the 6 Nations and also the European Juniors in 1981in Edinburgh. He, Alan Campbell and Roger Mills should have been on the stage, they were excellent coaches but their forte was comedy, nobody got off lightly!!

I dont have a problem confronting anyone after some banter if they take it the wrong way, most people know how to take what i say though. but then again some would say i make racist comments and others wouldn't becasue i aim my comments at my friends and my group who do the same to me, life really is that simple.

I will of course reitterate if you think language like that is not used to wind up opponents then you really have led a sheltered life. In club badminton where we are all friends some of the language is clourfull indeed. Just find out who i do most of my coaching mentoring with and you will understand, been one of my closest friends for over 15 years.

Also soup that is why i put my name to my comments, although i know who you are i am not afraid to put my name to anything i say and let others judge me. Probablywhy i'm held in such a low regard among most out there.

The funny thing was at last years West of Scotland i was walking by a group of players sitting on a table (people who are far better players but do not know me or have ever met me) and they made the mistake of saying to my girlfriend who knew them and passed by and said hi, that i was a prick. Shame was that she didnt tell me till after i had left because she knew i would either react in one of two ways - i'll leave that to your imagination.

And yes Soup that was harmless banter, and i'd probably have let it slideor using your anecdote above i could have quite easily taken them all outside and given them what for. But then again whats the point as everyone has an opinion on somehting and hitting someone wont change their opinion so why bother other than it makes the individual feel better with themselves for a short time?
