is anyone in agreement that the game has always been guilty of a lack of imagination with a view to making badminton more appealing to the public in general?
i read yesterday that of all racket sports, badminton is the most demanding. why does the game always restrict itself to normal parameters? I believe the game requires a headhunting job to secure an individual that will totally change badmintons appeal, whether it be along Kerry Packer lines or some form of marketing whizz kid. I look on the game 20 years on and for me it still has a non-controversial, safe and dated appeal.
Badminton is a lifestyle for those that play the game, but all players and spectators have other lifestyle(s) as part of their life such as music, eating out, film and travel.
Think about it? You would think looking at the SBU website in particular that all athletes/spectators wan't to know is badminton and nothing else. It is unhealthy. No wonder sponsors remain invisible.

What the game needs is an injection of va va voom!!!!
We are fighting against trends and ingrained habits to make these changes....
To change "customer perception" we have to start at home first, we need excitment generated, characters in the sport, passion and controversy!! .....there is no such thing as bad press!!!! All press is good press!!!
A perception shift is where it all begins, ultimately what we need to do first is to move beyond amateurs running professional sport, or professional sport to stop being running as an amateur organisation. Take your pick!
Scottish and Welsh Badminton are case examples of this, and sooner rather than later they should wise up to running as profit making organisations where jobs depends on fufilling capacity crowds, securing high end sposnorships, domestic television coverage, image, money and marketing.
Job Description....
Individual Required For Immediate Public Relations and Marketing Directive.
!!!
But who in their right mind would take the job? - Therein lies the problem.

Well first of all, I can't see Thierry Henry taking up badminton and certainly not taking up a marketing role for BadmintonScotland or WelshBadminton!! Jesus!!! He can't even get off the bench at Arsenal at the moment!!!
And yes, faultserver son no-one in their right mind, qualified enough would take up such a role because
a) the money isn't there to pay their highly qualified wages and
b) they'd have the added task of first having to create a perception shift in their immediate work colleagues!
More hassle than its worth to anyone with genuine credentials who could actually make a difference!!!
The shift you talk about only has to happen at the top of the tree and it would filter all the way down for it to work, sadly though bringing in one person to work underneath and amongst non-similar thinking individuals i just don't think will work.
I think the biggest problem facing our sport in the home countries is a lack of professional accountability, how the hell do certain nuggets manage to keep their jobs!!!!!??
What we need are individuals with a proven track record who are not working in sport!!

hear what you are saying. this challenge thought is about a well planned approach to a successful businessman ala kerry packer who brings to the table undoubted ability to fund a breakaway group over a short space of time, then enjoy a return.
the work comes through it's infrastructure, marketing and sport model with regard to how the game will be watched, played, dressed and marketed.
in order to execute this concept, it will not require permission from the IBF or national governing bodies as it's it's formation alone poses a real threat to badminton as we know it.
there should be a mission statement covering all areas. to those that say 'but i couldn't play in the olympics commonwelath games, thomas cup or world champs' the reply would come in the shape of badminton's image, it's financial gains which will be key and a more rewarding professional career for those at elite level, and more quality at grass route level.
how could it start? there are many investors out there willing to look at business plans that challenge the norm. i wish badminton had more modern day thinkers that don't have to wait for permission to speak and create.
IT'S ALMOST A LETS KEEP THE GAME A SECRET TYPE OF MANAGEMENT.
