Clark/Blair odds on favourites.... will they seal the deal?

Robertson/Emms Vs Clark/Kellogg.... Batttle of Britain?

Depending on draws I would say;

Mens
Smith = Winner . Is more used to playing a high level and seems very comfortable at doing so.
Raj = Runner up. I think even though he beat smith last year, I think smith would have too much for him this year.
Kidd + Rice should both comfortably make the semi's I would imagine.
Mark constable = Wooden Spoon
Black horse? Carl Baxter

Womens
Tracey Hallam = If shes fit I think Tracey is generally a level above the rest of the current crop. But will she be there and prepared?
Jill Pittard = Runner up. I just have a slight inkling towards Pittard doing well. Not the admirals kind of inkling i may add!
Liz Cann = Semi's
Michelle Cheung = other Semi's
Black horse? Julie Standly

Mens doubles
Clark and Blair are a different level, class etc to the rest and will stroll it.
Now the runners up are a much more tasty affair with lots of evenly matched pairs, but ill go a bit risky and go for R.Middleton/R.Adcock.
Lindley/Landgridge + Tonks/George I think will make up the semi's.
Black horse? C.Adcock + P.Mills or Luncheon/Smith.

Womens doubles
Donna/Gail to walk it.
Gabby White + Marianna for runners up as I dont think Nicholas and Munt are as heavy weight as their rankings would suggest.
Nicholas/Munt + Wallwork/Rayappan.
Black Horse? Not really sure, womens doubles seem to swap partners by the month.

Mixed
Gail/Nathan to win comfy.
Donna/Anthony to come runners up comfy - I dont think Anthony has the head to beat Nathan anymore, I dont believe he thinks that he can do it.
Blair/Wallwork + Roebuck/Munt should reach the semi's but I think Roebuck/munt could be a weak link.
Black Horse? There are a few pairs all around the semi level for that 4th spot but I think S.Bok/R.Middleton probably have the best chance of an upset.

Thats my predictions, so now if only I could swindle the draw to get the right setup I'd be laughing all the way to the bank.

Ladies Singles, if Hallam plays both the super series in January she'll maybe not have the strengh come nationals, though the others are not up to her standard even on her bad day.

Hmmm i'd like to see a Michelle Cheung, Liz Cann spank off... could be interesting and I think Michelle would be administrating the spanking!

The Aussie should come good for the Nationals i'll give you that, he's got to come good at some point.

A short run here could spell the end of The Bearded Ones career, and although there is going to be a few well up for the task, I think El Gaff will bring his game for "swansong 07"

The doubles is pretty poor after Blair and Clark so there could be a bit of handbags for those in pursuit of second best, I can see some yellow cards getting dished out in this event.

I think this year could be one year too early for michelle, which is why i chose ms pittard, but next season it will be her vs tracey in the final i reckon. And yes there are plenty who I think are much better positioned to win it then ghaffar, infact I wouldnt be suprised to see him lose quarters or earlier.

Far from saying I rate Ghaffar.

Ghaffar is still capable of going very far at this event.

Ego is very important in situations like this, and the beared one certainly has his fair share of that!

LS - Cann (out on a limb, but she's done it before, she can do it again)

MD - Blair and Clark (sadly no one else is at that level)

LD - Emms and Kellogg

MX - spose its gotta be Emms and Robertson....but would be nice to see Clark and Kellogg beat them once.

Singles is the only real debatable events.......the Velodrome has always done Ghaffar well....so wouldn't be surprised to see him in or aroundthe semi's/final!

I cant see anyway that Roebuck and Munt would beat Blair, Clark or Robertson and the respective ladies, in fact I would expect Dave Lindley and Susan Raypayan to beat them as well.
If Tracey Hallam can get fit in time then no one will get near her but her recovery from surgery would be the only way that I can see any of the other coming close.
Blair and Clark will win even if they dont get out of second gear at Wimbledon Adcock and Middleton only just beat Blair and Rice!!
Ladies doubles should be another one thats tied up.
In fact the only event that should be up for grabs is the mens singles and I reckon if Raj pull his finger out and trains for the next month he should take it.

I think I have to agree, I was thinking about going up to watch and the cheapest trainfare was about 100, thats about 5 weeks in advance. Seemingly the manchester route is a particularly expensive one. I am keener than most but 200 quid by the time I paid for a B and B is a bit much for a weekends badminton.

The Nationals have been held in the South previously at Burgess Hill and Crawley but the numbers of spectators attending were not high.

Presumably the current venue who were signed up for a number of years made a bette bid for the event so that is why its in the frozen North.

Having it in Sussex isnt the smartest either. A county on the south coast is not going to attract people either.
I havent ever been to the velodrome but there must be somewhere more central that could be used.

The cost is actually 21 quid or something like that!! 179 for booze!! After the whole of January off it I think by the frist of feb I could do with a few!!

I have not been to the velodrome and from the pictures it looks like a fantastic venue and I appreciate Badminton England is very lucky to have it as a venue. But when it comes up for a review, hopefully the profile of the sport will have been raised enough that BE could think about moving it more centrally within England.
