Dunfermline Open this weekend coming with all the big names playing, also Scott Evans from Ireland expected to play, results here should be a gauge for the Nats at the end of the month.
Shortlist tips for the titles?
MS - Flockhart, Casey, Goddard, Thomson, Gilliland
WS - Hughes, Sloan, Rita
MD - Forbes/Kerr, Bowman/Briggs, Gilmour/Robertson, Turnbull/Bethell
WD - Mason/Bankier (Is anyone else playing?)
XD - Briggs/Bankier, Robertson/Rita, Bowman/Mason
Is anyone on here playing?
PS
New to the forum! Hi! :)

For the nationals, it's not impossible (if they entered), that the winners of the nationals could be:
MS- Flockhart
WS - Yuan Gao
MD - Gilmour/Robertson
WD - Yuan Gao/Watt
XD - Robertson/Yuan Gao
i.e. no current Scottish internationals!

Well maybe a little far fetched but not stupid. Ladies' doubles is so weak she would still be in with a shout of at least making the final.

I think Scott Evans has a strong chance this week of winning the Dunf Open. He has beat Goddard and Casey this year and I don't think Bruce is fit.
Thomson beat Bruce earlier in the year at the West but Bruce was wasted after his semi against Gilliland, Gilliland I think is off the pace of the rest.
Susan should win, but it could be interesting to see how Linda Sloan performs, Rita in one off game against Susan will be really dangerous tho
I do agree with Sandra Watt, she shouldn't trouble Emma and Imo even playing with Rita (is that confirmed?)

She prob won't even play. McEwan Miller would also be able to win if she played even though she's retired. And whatever happened to Fiona Sneddon?

maybe linda sloan and jillie cooper then to make it to the final?

Bruce's semi against Gilliland had nothing to do with losing to Thomson, Thomson would have humped him anyway, fact Bruce even had three sets with Gilliland shows how gash he is!
Fiona Sneddon had a wean and quit like all good chookter girls do!
Kirsten McEwan has been gash for the last 2 years and def wouldn't be dangerous this year.

Gash has still been good enough to win ladies' doubles and mixed recently.
Fiona always used to beat Susan. Shame she gave up.

Lets try talking in the Queens English here you Scotty monkeys!
Why was Gash Kirsteen's nickname?
She's the best Scotty you've had for a few years now.

MS- Gordon beats Craig
WS- Rita beats Chubby
MD- DavieG and Robbo
WD- Emma and Imo
XD- Imo and WB
Bowman to win nothing (but still get picked for sudirman)

Goddard's been playing really well recently so I reckon he'll win unless Flockhart pulls it out the bag. Susan needs to win to have any credibility and I think she will.
David Gilmour & Craig Robertson will probably win again, and Emma & Imo should win but Susan & Rita might make it tough (wonder if they'll seed them 2nd?!!).
Mixed is tough, but I reckon Rita & Craig if they play together.

Nah, Thomson will win.
Also Rampant, Flockhart is injured i think and Casey will never play.
Seeds should be thomson, goddard, flockhart(injured), gilly
but think kieran will beat gilly maybe to

Have just looked at the draw for the Dunfermline Open, didn't realise it was a Veterans event! Might have to come out of retirement myself. Good to see Elinor's name again, would have been interesting to see her play with Sandra again playing against the current crop of internationalists. Also would have been good for one of the younger guys to play mixed with her, she's probably still the best lady mixed player.
Can someone let me know if the Alan McMillan is " Biffo"?
Also two names missing, thought Russell and Kenny would have entered for a laugh!!

As far as i knew wee fat al is offsky to Belgum at some stage early this year, thank god hes gone - he doensn't need to go to Ibrox anymore to see his team make fools of themselves, good news especially after today :D
The bugger signs in as: AMcilvain - imaginative one innit, go level some abuse at him Kevin!
Smash Master
5th January 2007, 00:49
Yes Kevin.
Alan McMillan as in "Biffo" as in Alan McMillan who won the nationals with Russel Hogg? (is that right?)
Not as in Alan McIlvain as in "wee fat al"
Draw.
Top half Scott Evans to play Bruce in Semis, nothing else spectaular happening there, Goddard v Gilly and Gordon v Lamb quarters in bottom half.
(give Bruce an easy draw to the semis as its his tournament I suppose)
Chubby v Rita final everyone else should just pull out (oops they already did only a draw of 13
Not playing - anyone know why?
Sloan, Briggs, Casey, Forbes

Out of interest I was having a look at the draw for the Dumfermline open and there is someone going by the same name as our very own gooner Matt! Has a decided to travel all the way to Jockland for this event??

Cheers for that SmashMaster (whoever you are!) You're getting your Alan's mixed up Alansd!
As for Alan McIlvain, good on him getting the job in Belgium. He deserves a step up with all the hard work he puts in, he might get more recognition and rewards for his acheivements over there! If you do do see this post Syph, just reminding you i do still have incriminating photo's of our holidays in Greece all those years ago!!
Back to Biffo, good to see him back playing again.
Would be interesting to hear the selectors comments if the winners of the Dunf and Nationals were all the golden oldies!!
Perhaps someone should arrange a challenge match with past internationals playing the current team!!

5th January 2007, 10:26
I think the winners will be:
MS - Goddard
WS - Hughes
MD - Robertson & Gilmour
WD - Yuan Gao & Watt
XD - Robertson & Yuan Gao

MS- Goddard
WS- Rita
MD- Bowman/Evans

Treble for Rita, well done!
Pretty close to what you said Mark, the "old timers" coming through, no substitue for class eh?
Bit disappointing on another level though.

Not surprised at the ladies' doubles at all. Sandra and Rita could win the Nationals if they played together, but they're not.
