Ayob from Malaysia, I think world No14 has failed a drugs test. Story is in the Malaysian news but nothing officially announced by the BWF. Does not say when or how.

Very bad news for the sport, and will only increase the number of questions about some of the Asian players, especially when they appear from no where.

:(

If true.....

Doesn´t bode to well for the KLRC.

Am I not right in saying that Ayob is a confidant of Smith as well?

Hate to get tooooo cynical but with the incredible physical demands of world level singles coupled with the rewards available to asian players it would be no surprise to find that 'performance enhancement' is common.Look at cycling, they kept it quiet for years but now the lid is off and the sport is totally discredited.
A strong governing body is required to control this.
I'm not being anti-asian here.I'm sure if success in europe brought fame/adulation/riches then the same would occur here.

Where is this information about the +ve test then? cant find it anywhere, and I cant see BWF banning a Malaysian player these days.

It was in the Malay Mail, round about the 17th Jan.

No name was given, but it was hinted at pretty stongly.

Failed test happend at a European event at the close of 2006.

Awaiting results of a B test sample before any official confirmation.

Ayob on Dutch I think so possibly there?

Saying that LeeTS also did well, and I know Saman Ismail won some tournaments at the end of the year, I think he beat Susilio which is a huge result for him. So it could easily be one of these others and not Ayob as they are all training at KLRC.

Would have to agree with Obi that I can easily see this being swept under the carpet, and for sure I cant see any asian player being court i Asia, I guess it will make these players think twice about playing tournamens in the UK in case they get caught out. Staying in Asia they will be safe from drug testing.

DOPE SHOCKER!
by RIZAL HASHIM

MALAYSIAN badminton has been rocked with the shocking news a shuttler had tested positive for a banned substance in a recent tournament in Europe. It’s all hush-hush in the domestic fraternity but Mailsport learnt the B portion of the player’s urine sample is being re-tested.

It is probably the first positive test involving a badminton player.

The shuttler is not among those participating in the ongoing Malaysian Open at the KLBA Stadium.

The player, who quit the BA of Malaysia (BAM) stable a few years ago, is ranked in the world’s top 20.

He is currently attached full-time with a club.

Besides winning a Grand Prix title, he also reached the last eight of a few other tournaments last year.

BA of Malaysia (BAM) and Badminton World Federation (BWF) officials are keeping mum since the testing process is supposed to remain confidential in accordance with the procedures in the World Anti-Doping Code.

When an athlete provides a urine sample, he or she divides it into A and B portions.

The two bottles are sealed in the presence of the athlete, and a strict chain of protocol is followed to transport the samples to a lab.

The A portion is tested, and if a positive finding is made, it is retested for confirmation.

The retest is usually done by a different technician and on a different and generally more sophisticated instrument to rule out human error.

If the A test is confirmed positive, the B portion of the sample is also tested.

The result of the B sample is considered the final result, and it almost always confirms the result of the A sample.

If the B sample is negative, however, the positive A result is thrown out.

If the test confirms the result, the ramifications are plenty for the shuttler.

It could spell the end of his career for under international rules, a two-year suspension is mandatory.

He, however, is allowed the opportunity to exhaust all avenues to prove his innocence.

While it could well be the first case involving a badminton player, athletes from football, athletics, weightlifting, sepak takraw and bodybuilding have had their fair share of doping offences in recent times.

You got to think that its going to be hard to cover it up now?

Especially if a Malaysian tabliod has got hold of it.

Surely questions have to been raised over this KLRC if one of their players has tested +ve, if it happened in athletics it would not look very good for the group coach. KLRC includes players like Lee Tseun Seng, Saman, and Andrew Smith.

If one of the Dames got done, it would not look very good for the coach or other players.

Any update on this story..... how long does it take for a B Sample to come out these days....?

No jokes now about him having to wait to go..... the chosen one can report this is not a comfortable experience!!

I am not right in thinking Sigit got done for Steroids. So it has been around a while.
