To old to Play

As my nic may inform you, I'm entering that stage of life when being a 'Grumpy old Man' is a genetic certainty so i'll start my life as a contributor with a few comments, moans and unbeliveably some praise

Lets start with the praise...what a brilliant idea to host the Nationals in my home town...always knew those people at the BAofE would come up trumps...eventually (refuse to call 'em BadmintonEngland)

Thought the Sales Village was good..especially as you can actually buy from all the stands.....just wonder if they approached any non sports related companies to see if they were interested ????, just could not find anybody selling a decent truss

Volunteer staff were good and helpfull...but strangely silent about my idea of a stanna lift on all those steps in and out?...dont laugh, you try it with a stiff leg and 3 tons of packed lunch

Arena looked good, could see a few people sitting around me but rest of the place must have been empty, as there was no noise, or atmosphere at all.......come on people, start cheering.....failing that hopefully our beloved council will employ some cheerleaders to get some noise going.

Why oh why did they start playing some real atmospheric music before the start...then cut it off10 seconds later...should have been played for 10 mins beforehand to get the excitement going.

Who were the idiots who tried to get a bloody wave going by shouting and screaming whilst the announce was introducing the players.....just wonder if the bald headed one REALLY thought I was capable of standing up so fast.

And whats with all this clenched fist celebration stuff from the players...not sure I like that.

Who was the prat who allowed the mayor bloke and his pal to waffle away for 10 minutes whilst the players stood around looking lost...why could this waffle not have been done after the girls had got the vases..or whatever they were, especially as their bags had already been taken away....what was that about?????

Not sure if I'm being fed a tale here but a friend saids that on the Saturday there were times when 2 or 3 courts stood empty, whats the point of that,

Also why was the final court laid out as it was...would it not have been better rotated 90 degress so long side of court was parrallel with the side stands.......anybody got any idea what the court thingy was made of or where it comes from.

OK time to take another round of medicines, please be kind to me with your answers...

The mayor's speech is always a highlight of finals day. I was dissapointed that it didn't last as long this year :(

Friday and Saturday were scary. I was being stalked by the famous "bloke with the hair" from Badminton magazine. I swear everywhere I went, every time I turned round he was right there behind me! I've been having nightmares ever since!

Thought there was something missing this year from a spectator's point of view. Maybe the "new" scoring system but the doubles games in particular seemed a lot less intense in some way. Regarding the empty courts on Saturday, perhaps the scoring system conributed to that as well, no danger of long games so maybe the organisers were caught out with the scheduling.

Enjoyable tournament to watch though. My only regret is that I missed some good sport to nip out over the road to the City match on Saturday afternoon :(

At the elites and nats the start times are given for all games to allow players to prepare properly. If the previous match had finished quickly then no matter if the court was empty or not they couldnt start the next game.

It's great that Manchester got the vote to host the new Super Casino. There will be black jack, roulette, slot machines but the crap games will still be next door at the City of Manchester Sadium!!

That would be funny if it wasn't sadly so true ;)

I spent the Saturday walking round in my United shirt, im glad i didn't go outside especially after reading laid the smack down!

Only a few complaints from me,
1. The speakers infront of the viewing boxes always spoilt the view of one or more court, was there not somewhere more useful to position them, such as a bit lower or perhaps behind the stand?
2. When you only have a few big names in the draw, dont put them all on at the same time, such as both mixed pairs.
3. Turn the brightness of that bloody hitec advert down on the screen over the warmup area.
