Just saw English manager Mr Wright on tv in Denmark.
He claims to be in the process of preventing English players from taking part in the Danish league.
He says this is best for them so that tjhey can concentrate on their home commitments. As far as I can see they benefit much more from the competitiion in Denmark.
I wonder if he going to compensate the players involved. The value to Nathan and Gail is significant.
I wonder also how he is going to implement this in the light of previous cases of restriction of trade. This is going to be an interesting one.
Dare I call it "Wright Gate".

Unless he offers them more "funding" money then they get paid to enter the Danish leagues, I think mr Wright is going to struggle, but its good to see that he sends the mens singles away from being centralised, and then the doubles players who are successful he wants to bring back t being more centralised?

With the funding dropping and the likelihood that it will be cut drastically in the future as nearly all the lottery funding will be soaked up by the Olympics I cannot see where he expects players to get their money from. I agree that top players should honour their UK commitments as the up and coming players will never get a chance to test themselves against the top players. After all these are only the elite and national tournaments and should leave time to play for Danish clubs.
It seems strange to me that Lee Jae Bok does no real coaching at all and the mens singles players have been scattered around the country. Lee is a demanding coach but is probably just what the mens singles squad need. The ladies are still training at MK with Yvette so cannot work out what is going on.
I get the impression that Ian has written off the singles players as most of them do not get any funding other than tounament expenses. I can see that the doubles players are doing better than the singles players but wonder if this is going to be enough to build a resurgence of English badminton on.

Wright stamping his feet trying to assert himself again! A man with no vision, no direction, no idea! Player power will prevail as usual and he will have to back down!
Have heard that Dave Hunt has a lot of influence at Badminton England now:confused: Is that the reason the Mens Singles has been de-centralised? So all the funding can be put into Smith!

If it wasn't de-centralised then Smithy would have had to train at MK for his funding... Might be a bit harse on Ian Wright as I have heard that England are trying to bring in there own league like Denmark (wait to see it though)...

We had quite an extensive conversation about a league in this country which would be a great idea. If this were to happen surely some of the people playing on here would have been approached to play for teams or even know about it.

I've said it before....
If Mr Wright has his way then sooner rather than later we will be as good as France, and then once we have reached rock bottom, Mr Wright can hop off to another country to destory their national game as well.

Who is this Wright fellow and where/what level has he played at . I remember on many ocassions watching Dave Hunt playing singles against the likes of young Baddeley, Yates and Neilsen..... if it is the same Hampshire bloke who coached the likes of Steve Wasall and Catermole, Hunt was a fair old player.
Funding has always been an issue and always will. The nationals were at the weekend and hardly any coverage in the Newspapers. Where is the new high profile that Badminton England are trying to achieve?
Where are the new sponsors... no where because they know Badminton is a minor sport in this country and the new rule changes have done nothing to address this.

Didn't see it myself but apparently Nathan was on Danish tv last night saying he had a contract with a Danish club and that wasn't going to suddenly stop!!
Can't see the BA of E being able to compensate him or his club since the figures are substantial by badminton standards.
The game is on ...... I

I understand that if you are are over 24 and not in the top 30 in the world you will lose your funding, unless you are deemed to be "special". English singles players tend to mature late so this regime will ensure thatwe have no funded singles players in England unless they are "special". From what I can gather this means that they have the potential and track record to show that they can beat a top player. This smacks of the English disease of selectivity that will allow "the best thing since sliced bread" players to be supported whilst the less favoured, will be consigned to the scrap heap. I think we all have a list of players that we can remember as "guaranteed winners" as thought of by Badminton England that have turned out to be not very good and were given every selection and funded opportunity that they did not deserve. BE still believe that they can turn a favoured junior into a star by spin and publicity rather than results. You pick your own juniors undergoing this star treatment.
