So my thinking is correct again and at variance with the thoughts that Denmark has nobody coming through in mens singles. Jan Ø Jørgensen, Rune Ulsing, Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and Joachim Persson are all showing good potential. There was complete silence in the hall when Jan Ø took the first set from Gade almost as if the crowd was stunned and in disbelief and I think we will see a changing of the guard slowly but surely. OK Peter is picking up the pace but he still got a fright before winning in three sets. I think over the next 2-3 years all the above prospects can reach a very high level and indeed Gade said so himself after his game with Jan Ø. Rune Ulsing is looking sharper each week and I love to see the critics swallow their words, good play boys and keep it up.

Some of the better known players got a shock to say the least.

MD: Rasmussen/Paaske bt Lundgaard/Eriksen 21/17 24/22

Mette Schjoldager withdrew from ladies doubles, so did Kamilla Rytter Juhl (she was replaced by Tine Rasmussen, but lost in the semis together with Lena Frier).

The only top mens player missing was Mathias Boe, who was out because of illness.

HKV, how important do results at the Danish Nationals count towards team selection, or is more emphasis placed on world rankings and world results?

For example.... Persson losing in the singles....

And say theoretically (cos it could happen :) ) a Jan O, or a HKV tumbled Gade or Kenneth in the event, would they find themselves in the team at the expense of Gade or Kenneth?

Well given that HKV topped two seeds, surely that should do him no harm at all!

International results will have a much larger impact than national based results (nationals, team tournament, danish grand prix's). This seems quite logic to me as when you're being selected for a national team you'll have to play other countries (obviously:) ) which means different type of players than danish players. So being able to perform against other nationalities will be more important as this is what gets the team winning...

With that being said I have to say that nationals still has some importance to the players and coaches. For the younger players like myself its one of the best opportunities to show the coaches how well we have progressed the last year and what we are capable of, how big our potential is. The nationals and Denmark Open, are the only 2 tournaments where all of the national coaches will be able to see you play. So its a nice chance to send the coaches a signal of who they should give extra funding...

Gade or Kenneth would still be the first 2 guys on the team even if they crashed out in the 1st round of the nationals. As the only two danes they have been able to beat the top players reguarly and as long noone else is proving to be capable of that, I'm sure they dont have to worry about their place on the team.
I guess Persson doesnt worry too much either as his international results are still far more impressive than Jan Ø's, mine, Ulsing's or anyone else. Apart from that Persson has also been dealing with some injuries for quite a while and is still in the process of recovering, so this results doesnt reflect his real strenght in my opnion.

Did all this make any sense at all? :)

@Badboy
I would have loved to beat two seeds, but unfortunately i lost to Jonassen :D , which means I "only" beat 1 seed, Michael Christensen...

I must of been thinking of Ulsing instead, but congrats anyway HKV it was a sterling effort!

I'd say its quite a fair and mature outlook on the situation.
considering of course that your main goal is to fight for a place in the team, its good to see respect given where respect is due.
