BadGirl
15th February 2007, 10:45
thanks - bbc2 on a sunday afternoon isnt exactly primetime, but i'm really glad some badminton will be shown on TV! Hopefully we'll beat Germany too! :D
I was surprised that the nationals wasnt shown on tv at all or not that i saw anyway
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 11:06

When is your birthday ChoseOneReturns? Am thinking of buying you that monkey.
TheChosenOneReturns!
15th February 2007, 11:20
Next week Dan.....
Soooooooo excited!!
Luncheon
15th February 2007, 11:22
You ought to get a monkey on a special birthday like 50!!!!
BadGirl
15th February 2007, 11:22
I can get access to sky, and I will love to watch the All England i'm sure the games will be fantastic
but I think to get the profile of badminton up in the UK it would be interesting to watch English players, so the nationals would have been a good one to televise. However I think televising England V Germany is a great idea and will hopefully get people involved in watching our best English players and also a competitive spirit to beat the Germans like there is in football
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 11:22
Don't go wearing your birthday suit with that monkey around

I think to raise the TV profile, my monkey could do the players breaks, sing the national anthem and throw poo at Gill Clark in the commentry box!!
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 11:28
Don’t let monkeytalk put you off contributing BadGirl!
Try and find someone with Sky and get them to record it.
It will be much better than any highlights on BBC
BadGirl
15th February 2007, 11:29
ooo! missed all that banter
Thanks for the welcome all!....and the invite to watch the All England at yours Dan ;)
I may well to take you up on that offer....and i'll promise to behave ;)
TheChosenOneReturns!
15th February 2007, 11:29
Unless of course Darren is in the commentary box, and then my Monkey can stick to focusing on throwing poo at the Germans!!

ChosenOne?
How did you spend Valentines Day? Was it down the monkey enclosure?
BadGirl
15th February 2007, 11:41
lol!
I'm getting confused. Is the England V Germany match shown on Sky and the highlights shown on BBC2
or is Sky just showing the All England?
TheChosenOneReturns!
15th February 2007, 11:44
The Chosen One spent a quiet night in on Valentines, love is far across the sea....
As I am hitting 50 now and very lonely, I need a monkey to keep me sane on all these lonely nights....

15th February 2007, 11:48
hmmm...I'm getting scared!
So...who do you think will win out of England V Germany? I don't know much about the German players.
I would have thought our team should beat them?
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 11:49
On the Sunday 25th the BBC will be showing highlights of the England v Germany match
Sky Sports show the All England Live on 9th 10th 11th March
The BBC has in the past, a week later shown highlights of the All England but its not guaranteed
Kimbo, are you suggesting I am up for some monkey business?
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 11:50
My predictions:
England to win 3-2
Joppien win in 3
Huaiwen win in 2
Emms/Kellogg bt Grether Schenk in 3
Clark/Blair win in 2
Robertson Emms win in 2
TheChosenOneReturns!

Leave my monkey out of this!!
:(
BadGirl
15th February 2007, 11:52

I assumed we had stronger doubles and mixed pairs but wasnt sure about how the singles would pan out

Ladies Doubles will be the clincher,
maybe they should keep it to the end so the crowd don't leave?
That would be a reversal of normal behaviour!!
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 11:56
germany has a good ladies doubles pair, and their singles are better than ours
mens doubles and mixed doubles should be relatively easy although didn''t robertson and emms lose to them recently in the first round when they were number 1 seeds?

Hey that would be good to keep the tension right to the end...i think our girls should have the edge
Perhaps Rajiv Ouseph and Liz Cann may pull some surprises for a complete German whipping!

"Spanking" is the word of choice on here Badgirl!
;)
danbelcher
15th February 2007, 12:14
you somehow manage to get "spanking" into every thread ChosenOne.
but I am still waitint to see it on the Suzanne Rayappan and Jenny Wallwork Interview Video thread
kimboshay
15th February 2007, 12:16
you want to see the chosen one spanking rayapan and wallwork, dan??

Naughty Chez Kimbo, you are such a bad influence on me! I started off in this thread with good intentions

Perhaps Kimbo or ChosenOne could start a new thread entitled “Spank Monkey-Boy Spank” so that it will stay permanently on topic
TheChosenOneReturns!

Can we start a poll Site Support please, because this match will be a close one I think!

A question really for BE but why has the National Men's Singles Champion this year not been selected to play for England in the forthcoming match against Germany?
Any thoughts.
bigfoot
16th February 2007, 09:25
I don't think just winning the nationals is taken into account, they must have looked at performance throughout the year nationally and internationally. Saw on the BE website on the write up of the Nationals that Wright doesn't think Kidd's results internationally have been that great.
Plus Rajiv has a higher national ranking and has beaten Kidd the last two times they played.
Whats more of interest is why Smith isn't playing? As he is the English number 1 and has a much higher world ranking.
Perhaps they asked Smith and he declined to play, and next ranked English player was Ouseph?
TheChosenOneReturns!
16th February 2007, 09:35
I would guess that Smith was not asked Bigfoot.
bigfoot
16th February 2007, 09:48
really?
why do you think that?
i thought BE were pro Smith
Badboy
16th February 2007, 11:56
But I think generally the consensus is that Smith isn't that pro BE.
But to be fair to Kidd he did do the business so I would be expecting a little more help and respect off BE then he seems to be getting right now.
Woody
16th February 2007, 13:13
Kidd was told before the nationals that his funding was being stopped and when he won he was told that it would be re-instated.
This cannot be the right way to treat a player surely?
He was then criticised by BE for telling the press that his funding had been stopped.
TheChosenOneReturns!
16th February 2007, 13:45
And what..... BE reinstated his funding probably also because of the fear of public backlash and poor publicity.
Thats my boy Nick!!
The Chosen is all for holding people to ransom!!

If I was BE, i'd get devious on Smith's ass.
Ask him to play, knowing that he will reject. Easy then not to pick him for Sudirman, and cut all his funding!!

Reading some of the threads here it seems to me that the BA of E does its best to hinder its players and not help them.
Names such as Smith, Kidd, Honey have all been punished when in fact they are amongst the best ranked players.
Somebody please direct them to a good course in people management OR otherwise get rid of them.
I suppose its managment by fear and force instead of by positive encouragement.
OK so I don't understand whats going on but the comments here indiate something is wrong. There is no smoke without fire.

Wow - great win for England, 3-2!!
Seemed a bit of an easy game for Gail and Nath...quite a lot of the games were one sided.
But great viewing...and was good to see Badminton on TV and highlighted.
Not sure if Gillian Clark was the right person to show the coaching tips in the breaks...possibly would have been an idea to promote younger players like Jenny Wallwork and Kristian Roebuck to do that instead.
Looking forward to watching the All England now! :-)

i thought Archer was quite good. he used to be a bit rubbish at presenting but I think he is getting really good now.
I have only watched highlights of the highights so far as recorded it cos been busy but I don't think they mentioned that the german squad (i believe) are not full timeplayers like english squad. I may be wrong but i think they are all in the Bundeswehr.
was good production and glad they dropped the brass band that was playing last time as that was awful.

25th February 2007, 19:54
Oi, Dan don't go acting all like your interested in the badminton now!!
