i've found it...here's the thread i read and posted about red's joint formular in 2006
(http://www.badders.com/forum/showthread.html?t=2055&highlight=glucosamine&page=2)
Have you tried taking each day: Glucosamine 1500mg + Methylsulfonylmethane(MSM) 2000mg + Calcium 1000mg(in divided dose) + Bromelian 1000GDU(optional, but taking will speed healing)?
i have been prescribing the above to more than 200 individuals in my sports club and church over the last 8 years. it works well with 85% of the cases. the ages of these individuals range from 26 to 86.
as knee problems(especially the athelete) are developed over years...it takes time to heal...normally, one will feel the result after supplementing with the above for 6-8weeks...it will be getting better when taking long term.
(it's cheaper to buy from "puritan.com" or "iherb.com")

Thanks myself.
I do take Glucosamine but not regularly. I can walk quite well now but the knee doesn't have the movement i need to be able to play again.
Maybe i'll be fit in time for next years orbital :(

Side effects of Glucosamine
This is what the current research and evidence tells us so far about any side effects with glucosamine:
"The most common side effects are increased intestinal gas and softened stools. However, animal research has raised the possibility that glucosamine may worsen insulin resistance, a major cause of diabetes. So far, studies in humans have not substantiated that risk. Nevertheless, people with diabetes should monitor their blood-sugar level particularly carefully when using that supplement. There have been no reports of allergic reactions to glucosamine. But since it's made from shellfish shells, people who are allergic to seafood should use it cautiously, watching for reactions, or avoid it entirely"
Interactions between glucosamine and other medications are unknown.
What side effects have you had apart from wind and runny....

Not had any side-effects but as I said, I take it so little it's a waste of time.
Maybe I'll try cod liver oil - or does that make your head explode or something?

1 in order to work well, Glucosamine must be taken on a regular basis...a 2006 research shows that adding MSM will improve the effect
2 to reduce the side effect of gas or stomach pain, take it with meal
3 taking Bromelian is very effective for pain reduction...especially for heavy training sessions or compition...the boxers love using Bromelian...there were lot of research on the healing effect of bromelian
4 it's a laugh that one of the side effects is the impact on insulin...it seems that taking anything that contain sugar should also be avoided...it sounds that eating anything do have side effect
5 i have prescribed G+MSM+calcium+Bromelian to a few hundred ppls over the last 10 years...the success rate is very good...around 85% have reduction in pain...but consistancy is the key to success
6 i have read reseach that taking Omega-3 will have joints...there are reseach some machines detact that the omega-3 were absorped into the joint after taking(i dont remeber well)...but taking G+MSM is more directly correlated...in fact, there's a Finland medical research showing that ppls taking Glucosamine continuously for one year have signs of "soft tissue" recovering on the wound
good luck
