Watson Briggs and Matt Honey lost in the qualifying group 1 to a Malay Pair. However, after they lost, they got promoted to the main draw? Has this happened before and does anyone know why there isn't a walkover? Good luck to them anyway!

I guess it's a bit like at Wimbledon (tennis) where they have 'lucky losers' from final qualifying?

The score shown on the German Open website is 21-9, 10-9.
This would seem to indicate that the match in progress was stopped to allow promotion to occur, which is according to the rules.

Does that mean that another pair with a higher ranking lost out-both pairs in that final qualifying match are in the main draw?

WBF rules state that

"If a vacancy arises in the main draw, the highest-ranked entry not accepted .., and which has not yet lost a match can be placed in the vacancy"

and

"Where players or pairs withdraw from the main competition ..., the Referee may fill the vacancies from the entries in the qualifying rounds, provided these entries have not yet lost a match, even stopping a match in progress if required"

If there were higher-ranked pairs than Briggs/Honey in the Qualifying, presumably they had already lost a match when the vacancy occurred in the Main Draw.

Ive seen this go as far as a player being a set and 18/6 down in the second, only to have the referee walk on court, end the game and tell the player they are in the main draw...!!

No lukcy loser scenario, if you've lost .... your out.!!
