Hi all,
Chosen One here.
Here is the abrdiged version in 30 seconds of the previous thread that has now since been lost. "due to database problems" - SS
:D
Qualifying is rock hard, anybody worth their salt in Britan in the qualifying draws gets spanked in the process, some good results pre spanking for Raj in the singles as he dishes out the back of his hand to Booby Milroy and follows that up on Boobys Canadian compatriot Andrew Dabeka before losing in the final round of Qual....
Tracey, also out in the final round of Qual to a Malyasian whom the Pittard has also just run pretty close.
Ladies doubles and Scotlands Bankier and Mason the only Brits to survive the qualifying draw as they overcome a Dutch pair to setup a clash with World No.14 pair from Japan.
Main Draw...
Singles, all fall in the first round bar Vaughan who takes an "easy" 3 set win against top Dutch player Pang, Smith with tough draw against No.2 seed Chen Jin, gets beaten in 2, Hughes from Scotland the only lady in the singles main draw also loses in 2..... blink and you'll miss it was the quote!!
Ladies Doubles and a sensational win for the young Scottys over the Japanese pair sets up a last 16 clash with the World No.2's
Debate starts over whether Smith is ****, Admiral keen to point out that Dew Bags himself has stated that Smith is Englands only world class player, Markymark then recovers with a comment that all British players are "****" in comparrison to the Chinese, and no more so than in the singles events.
Vaughan the last remaining Brit in the singles events at the round of 16, rockets off to a commading first set lead on World Silver Medalist Bao Chunlai, taking the first set to 15, he then loses the 2nd to 12, and unfortunatley also the third, great effort from the Vaughan considering his comeback from recent serious injury.
Boredom then sets in on the forum as the Ladies Doubles events go on, Markymark makes some disparaging comments about Susan Hughes and gets the whole thread deleted....!!
Think we're up to pace now, banter on!!

Today was another awesome day, Anthony and Donna walked their game, Nathan and Gail should of walked home they were that bad. Emma and Imogen played awesomely against the Chinese but just lacked the muscle to put it on the deck. Roebuck and Munt played well but were always outclassed.
And then the big guns themselves came out, Big Marky C made an appearance! I was only feet away, it was like a living legend!
Didn't see lunchmeat yesterday, that was a disappointment, was going to ask him what went wrong in Leicester!

We'll Robertson and Emm's big game is today vs Gao and Zheng Bo if they win this I would make them firm favourites, but given that in ?3? encounters so far they are yet to win, who knows, just glad iv got tickets! Clark and Kellogg will hopefully take theirs against the Korean pair who played last night. The Koreans like it fast and their bottle is slightly suspect but laybourn threw it away to be honest.

Just heard BBC interview with Richard Vaughan, and hes still not on any UK funding!!!! crazy, not even in the national team training. More than that it appears that Aamir Ghaffer is???????
Confused:confused:
Does UK funding exclude Wales? no sheep allowed :p

vaughan was getting coaching during the game against Bao Chunlai from Ian Wright......
Badboy
9th March 2007, 12:03
yeah he's been one of many unfortunate recipients so far, even Emma and Imogen had him "helping out".
TheChosenOneReturns!
9th March 2007, 12:03
Vaughan has also known Wright for a long time, so maybe no need to read too much into that....
But of course it is interesting that the head National English Coach is supporting a non-funded Welsh player....

Just had to comment that went to the NIA Thursday. Originally disappointed that work got in the way of spending all day there as I normally do, it turned out to be a relief. What was traditionally a vibrant atmosphere in the arena and sometimes elsewhere, turned out to be absolutely flat. I also tried really really hard to get excited about the play, despite my hatred of this imposed new scoring system. I failed. Too much defensive play, less than full paced smashes, little going for the lines and not much emotion. Thought it would all change when Laybourn and Rytter Juhl played but even they seemed to not be enjoying it - a bit like the majority of the crowd really. Talking to some old umpire colleagues today, it's been like it all week apparently. It was so bad that we left before Nathan and Gail played at sometime after 9pm (or was it nearer 10?), and they would have been only the 2nd English pair we would have seen.
Apologies that I have used this variation on a quote from the great Stuart Hall before but ......... 'I don't know what all this was, but it will never be a substitute for the game we love'
I know I am now not in the 'target audience' the well paid officers of the sport worldwide are trying to attract or keep, but if it's like this next year, I wont waste my time going and I will wager many others wont either...... Sad, Very very sad:

Emms and Robertson lost in the quarters in three games.
Made to many errors particularly at the start of the third.
They played well but were always hard pressed.
Apparently Nathan is undergoing an operation on his elbow next week so perhaps he is carrying an injury?

i have been many times to quarters, semis etc but not been before to day one and two so can't compare it to previous years but there were many close games, probably due to the new format. there was more atmosphere on thursday when the indonesians and malaysians got going, and am sure it will be more today on.
nathan and gail did well and was a shame they lost in so close a final, they seemed to be making him work to wear him out, perhaps their tactic was learnt from last year's final? they were cutting gail out of the game i thought, but what do i know, i am rubbish player!
clark and kelogg are playign fab. clark especially. i hope they can make the final

Well done good luck tomorrow

that was an awesome display of mixed doubles by clark and kellogg, loved the bit where clark played two shots on the floor and still won the point. was some of the best badminton i have seen. if they continue to play in the manner that they have done this week, then they could certainly win the title, best of luck to them both

mmmmm Anyone else see Pi being from France????? I find it highly amusing to read 'France's Pi beat china's Zhang Ning!!!' Pi is Chinese can nobody see that?????
She moved to France for financial reasons after being turned down from numerous countries, so she could play at the Olympics and make money. If we had accepted her she could be playing for Scotland right now.
Ironically if you look at the actual French Team, not Bulgarian, Indonesian or Chinese!!!!!!!! its worse than 10 years ago.

Well played to Anthony Clark & Donna Kellogg, who despite losing showcased to the world that England can play world class badminton.
I was disappointed that there was no mention on the badmintonengland website on the day of their semi- final success, or even their play in the final.
I find this very poor marketing from Badminton England. I know its the weekend and staff are off, but surely someone could be designated to report on it from the event? its THE main event of the calendar for BE.
Also, the Daily mail on sunday had a small few lines printing the results from the semis, bu even the mixed was not mentioned. Is there not a press officer at BE?
It has annoyed me in the past when people have dished BE, but I find their lack of promotion disturbing.

the home page only says about Clarks' award and on them reaching the semis
i think, its poor that is has not been updated, as the event is such a big one.
i know there are links to results, unless i am missing something
