Anyone else live in Mid Wales? There are very few clubs here now, and far too many clubs are folding because of the lack of people wanting to play. The general standard around here is beginner - improver, but the nearest club with improver - better is Abergavenny. It's a bit of a trek, but worth going just to get a game every week or so. I had a thought about Hereford but also a bit of a trek. If anyone from Hereford is on here i would be grateful if you could send me a message so i can attend a club in the near future.
Mid Wales Senior Series are going well this year, however, the only problem is...lack of good people playing good badminton in Mid Wales!! Anyone know of anything that could help??

hello, I was living in Llandrindod Wells until I went back to Uni in August - there is a club there that I used to play with years ago but I know it is still up and running on Wednesday nights. I don't know what the quality is like there now (and it was hit and miss when I was there) but if it's an easier drive it may be worth looking into? Badminton is not exactly promoted in Mid-Wales - I know a couple of juniors breaking into the Welsh squad who have to travel to Cardiff to get proper competition. Perhaps we should all bug the Welsh Assembly to give badminton a higher cross-Wales marketing?! Anyway, I hope that helps in some way...

Sorry meant to say, depending on where it is in Mid-Wales you are living, Ceredigion is always worth a look as they used to have several good clubs and of course universities like Aber often provided good players. Good luck! I haven't played badminton in ages now - I did play for my Uni, then picked up injuries, then changed Uni and got STUFFED everytime, then came home, didn't improve and now I am back at another Uni and appear to have lost the edge... Lol!!! :D

The standard in the l'dod club is quite poor now, i still go there with my dad, but we end up playing more competitive table tennis than badminton. Unfortunately, the club may have to fold soon cos there's just not enough members. Who are you by the way? I'm Chris Collins, have been playing in the Llandrindod Wells club for about ten years or so, used to be in the "C" Team with Derek.
Hope you manage to get back into the sport. Chris

My name is Martyn and I played on and off at the club sessions about three years ago - I don't think they had teams when I was there - it was always in slight trouble! I had played badminton at Uni for four years but I became quiet disheartened with it in general and have floated in and out of tennis and squash and various other sports in an attempt to re-kindle the spark.
Either way, I must have met you when I was down there?
I am actually going to badminton tomorrow night on campus (I am at Carmarthen for the year) for the first time in about two years. That isn't quite true; I played at the Carmarthen town club a few weeks on the trot (they were very good) and ended up injuring myself out ever since. So, fingers crossed I can hold it together tomorrow night!
Oh well, I am back in Llan'dod for Christmas - never thought I would say this but I am really looking forward to it!
Who goes to the club now then?

Well, not that many people cos it's probably going to fold after christmas or spring. A guy called Dave Sennit runs the club, he's 70ish, and does such a good job at trying to advertise and get more members but no-one wants to play, grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Me and my dad go down quite often, my dad's called mick, he would've probably been there when you were there, i may not cos of uni and was working away from home for a while, but now i'm back, there's nowhere to play except hereford or abergavenny! I look forward to seeing you/meeting you over the winter period, i'll let you know when the last one of the year is and when it's starting back up again. Have fun in Carmarthen clubs!! Chris
