Hi

Im injured at the moment with bad knees, but in a month I should recover enough to start playing again. Im a club level player and im looking for a coach in the Stafford (staffordshire) area who can help me once or twice a week to work on my badminton in general but mainly my footwork. The main reason for my injury was in my opinion due to incorrect footwork. I used to play about 4 times a week. Doc says i have tendonitis on my knees and its rather painful. If someone can coach me id be so indebted to you. I would like coaching in all areas really but my main requirement is to perform correct footwork...

I can negotiate rates etc if you are interested.

Pls reply here, or pm

thanks

Hi

Many thanks for that link.

I rang the person, but it seems distance may be an issue for regular coaching. I could ideally do with someone in stoke on trent, cannock, or even better.. in stafford!!

Also I can pay up to £20 an hour. Anything else would be difficult for me to afford.

pls pls pls.. if u have any other suggestions let me know. I believe i will be fit in early feb.

thanks so much.

Does any one agree that a conurbation the size of Stoke or Cannock or anywhere else on that part of the A5 should be able to offer coaching.

If Badds is not to continue its downward trend, then in this size of town or group of towns you MUST have;

Ten coaches.

Six evening classes capable of taking ten students each. Four classes beginners; two for intermediates.

The BISI scheme in active operation in three out of ten (minimum) junior schools.

Three sizeable (50 member plus) social badminton clubs all members of an association so that they work in harness with the competitive clubs AND have the benefits of BadEng memberships.

Or perhaps that is how it is up there, already? If so good for you lot but let the rest of us know, please.

Hi Featherhitter,

Believe it or not I still have not managed to find a coach to help me. The ones ive found have been too busy with their county players or county junior players to give me regular coaching. Youre right, badminton is on a downward spiral in this country. I recently came back from india and malaysia where they worship the sport and its professionals. Theres badminton on practically every sports channel on tv there and major tournaments are broadcast on terrestrial tv too.

The game needs to be heavily promoted here in schools and such and coaching should be widely available for those who require it. (ie. me and my friends) You say there should be evening classes and ten coaches in the area? I have been able to find 2 coaches willing to teach but they have busy schedules and are not free. (this is from badminton england themselves and searching on the internet) As far as i know there is one evening class in newcastle under lyme (about 30 min drive for me) but even that is full!!

There are 3 badminton clubs in stafford but thats not coaching. And all but one, the standard there is very basic. I think one is Badminton england affiliated. I really want to improve my game, my footwork, technique etc. Im not the only one looking for a coach. I have a few avid badminton fanatics here who would love some proper coaching.

Ill keep trying..

If you come to the World Class Exhibition on Sunday 2nd March I can include you in the half hour coaching with the legendary Rexy Mainaky who was coach to England and is now coach to Malaysia. If Rexy can't sort out your footwork then nobody can!

See article on home page.

If interested contact me on Tel. 07796 - 593887 :)

P.S. I have set up coaching classes at Stratford Leisure Centre and have 3 coaches working there so that might be an option if not too far for you.

George that is an amazing offer. Im very excited as it is about the exhibition (have sent you a cheque for 3 tickets today btw) and just to see rexy would be incredible in itself. The man is a legend! Unfortunatly stratford is quite far away from me to attend regular coaching. If you can reccomend anyone in the Staffordshire area then pls let me know!! I so BADLY want a regular coach! I will call you.

Unfortunately the company (Sport & Leisure Management Ltd) that I am working for to set up coaching classes in their centres do not have any in Staffs.

Try and speak to the regional development manager for Staffs Rachel Bayley tel. 0785 - 094722 e-mail: rachelbayley@badmintonengland.co.uk

Maybe try and contact Dave Eddy. He is a coach and an ex England player but these days is a member of Badminton England board of directors so may be too busy but worth a try and he will definitley know of active and good coaches in Staffs. Don't know his tel. no. but Badminton England will have it.

The only other thing I could suggest is that you contact the Staffs County committee: President - Benson Greatrex Tel. 01785 - 254767, Chair - Peter Blake tel. 01543275963, Secretary - Judy Wilkes te. 01785 - 817176 or 238994. They don't appear to have either a development officer or coaching secretary. They should be able to point you in the direction of a reputable coach in your area.

Best of luck and I look forward to receiving your request for tickets for the World Class Exhibition. Let me know if you want me to put you down for coaching with Rexy.
