Is it important to have a variety of serves in your badminton box of tricks? A good flick? T-serve? Wide serve? ...and why? Might it be best just to have 1 really good serve?

Graham , The first thing is to develop a really good low serve to the opponants T. A serve you can use even when your opponant is attacking it. The other variations can be developed later. A good flick using the same action as if you are presenting a low serve. I am talking mens doubles here.Singles can be different

I tell the kids that I coach, for doubles, the higher the score, the lower the serve. Have two basic serves in your main arsenal - a bread and butter low service to the T, and a simple quick flick service. Other services should also be practiced however, as the game progresses, limit your risk to your high percentage serves so that you can score points.
