Hi

I have got back into badminton (been playing since October) after been away from the sport for over 15yrs. I have joined a local club and recently become a member. Club night is only once a week and i am really enjoying my time there.

My game is improving and I am eager to play more badminton., maybe a least twice a week to improve my game and of course keep fit :).

Should I:

Get some coaching - even though i feel my game is improving
Join another club at a social level (as well as being member at my existing club)
find a badminton partner to play out of club hours - struggling to find anyone to play.

I was an advanced player in my teens, but now in my 30's, I am between beginner to intermediate player.

I find playing badminton a good way to get rid of work related stress and feel good at the end of the session.

Any advice?

Hi James.

I'm more of a admin guy although I love playing.

Straight away join another club. Social or competitive doesn't matter too much. It will give you more exercise and spread your ability around more. Also you could well pick up someone that you are comfortable to play with.

Good to know that you have taken it up again... and good for our sport.

welcome back to badminton...glad that you posted:D

i myself hope the following would help:

1) get a good coach to improve your skills so that you can better your enjoyment in playing

2) participate in aerobic exercises(cross training too) so that your heart can be trained to be stronger to handle faster movement; also, you can enhance your endurance and play longer

3) do some overall weight training to tone up your muscle so that you have more power in executing shoots

4) have sufficient rest to avoid sport injury

just my .001 penny

Thanks for the replies:

I think i will look to join another club that is on another night and review having some 1 and 1 coaching lessons.

Would it cause problems to my club(s) if i register to play in the league with one of them when i am ready? I am not really conerened who are the better club in the league as i really just want to enjoy the game.

Also - does anyone know of any good coaches in Leicester area?

I am a keen cyclist - which keep me fit for the game....will take your advice on weight training for the upper body.

Many Thanks
