I read with great interest the comment made by Simon Archer's of being disgraceful after losing 5 matches to China playing their B team. This should open our eyes and make us realise what sort or standard of players we need to take on the best in the world. After all we are not certain of beating the Chinese B team if we were to nominate our top players to play against them. In addition to this, although Simon is undoubtedly one of the best mixed doubles players in the world having won a Bronze Medal in the Olympics, he did not get to the top level straight away. Like everybody else, he has to climb the ladder. He should not blame the BAofE to experiment with some young players in order to establish their potential to become world class players. On the contrary, Simon should use his experience to guide the younger players, encourage them to overcome match play abroad in a hostile admosphere and humidity, especially in the Far East.
The performance director, Fin Traerup said, "We are better of with the next lot of players."
Most people can understand his anger when Simon was blaming the BAof E of experimenting with younger players and asking for match play money. Fin was trying to stamp his authority and perhaps over reacted to make such a comment. Perhaps the BAof E should arrange to send some of their staff and coaches to the school of charm.
After all, it does not cost anyone a penny to be a bit charming.
I am almost certain Simon would feel as if salt has been rubbed on his wound by such a comment coming from the performance director. Surely this would not help England badminton at all when there is friction between management and players. Remember the old saying, "Unity is strength."
It is of paramount importance that the Chairman of the BAof E should now act immidiately by calling a meeting of those concerned together and sort things out before it is too late. To become the greatest badminton nation in the world, we must all look forward, gather our resources together and think positively.
Mr Chairman of BAofE please act now.
