i just thought id ask peoples opinions on how we'll do at next years six nations? personally i think we've got a very good chance to end denmarks 26 x gold run!

thetruesouth
1st June 2003, 21:02
yeah for sure we almost one last time at u15 level. not blaming anyone (sorry from me and tom)

georgelarge

So who do you think will be in the team then?

thetruesouth

u wish theresa, he he

georgelarge
2nd June 2003, 22:08
I was thinking of the vets! Seriously, if you think we have a good chance then who would you put in the team, put your money where your mouth is! Does anyone else have any views on the possible success of the Under 17 team in the 6 Nations? Will home ground have any effect?

thetruesouth
2nd June 2003, 22:12
OK, TOM singles ANDY singles Jenny and Michelle singles , doubles: andy and dean / tom and mark. girls doubles: jenny and ruth / liz and becky.
Mark and Liz mixed sound ok?????

JohnEllis
3rd June 2003, 12:45
I agree with the sentiments here. But lets not get carried away. Next years 6 Nations is almost a year away.
Mark's team is right at present but will it be so obvious come selection time? Will everybody be fit?
There is a lot of work to be put in (now in the classroom hopefully- GCSE time) and then training throughout the summer in readiness for the Danish Cup.
If the training pays off and we are succesful at Under 17 level in this we will have to improve again because the Danes will work their socks off to ensure their winning streak is not broken.
So lets not assume we will win it but work hard to ensure we win it.
Yes i believe you can do it and will be there to give as much support as i can.

i think you've got a wicked chance next year to beat denmark - lets face it, its about time they were beaten!!!!

thetruesouth
3rd June 2003, 16:31
Its in England, it would be nice if we had some support.

georgelarge
3rd June 2003, 20:37
Hello Mark, and everybody else! now that I have no responsibility for players in your age group, perhaps I will tell you what my current team would be? Then again, perhaps not (under protest)!! I do think that the Team may well be different at that time of the year, compared with the Team that will be selected for Danish cup, and Langenfeld (Individual). Some people who think their place is "safe" need to be aware of younger players, and rapidly improving players. I do believe that results will be what counts, and both domestic and International past performance will have to be taken in to account when the final team is chosen. (Jason)

thetruesouth

true comment, ive always loved listening to your views jas, theyr'e good but radical at times.

JohnEllis
3rd June 2003, 20:54
Surely if Jason was radical he would name his team here!
Perhaps he is mellowing or maybe he wants to take money off you Mark next season using his inside knowledge.

Anybody going to support the team out there?

Edward are you related to the other two fosters from up north geezer. If you are, nuff respect to you son coz they is wicked. one of them is a bit too heavy now but the skinny one is quality, i hope you are as talented as them geezer. Keep flying the flag for the Fosters in the North.

Oh and Ed, don't bother listening to the negative stuff from people. If its constructive criticism then fair enough, but anything else is just crap anyway!

Come on youth of today, its only constructive critism. If you cant take that then sling your hook.
Andy my son you aint from the south so please dont try to talk like us geezer.

Raj aint bad but he aint nuffin special.
Keep the flag flying high like we used to thats all monkey asks.
What you youngsters need is some southern pride like the monkey when playing the Danes, smack em up thats what i say.
Ed my son, you listen to pete now he is right.

Lewisio
28th October 2003, 14:40
Monkey, you probably would't get so much grief if you gave us your real name and then we could look at your results and see if you were indeed the great international star you've claimed to be or simply a mediocre player taking this opportunity to have a go at people who are having the chance that you didn't.

Why don't the u.17 players stop worrying about what people have to say on here and go and do some training. I haven't seen any of them produce anything out of the ordinary to suggest they will go onto bigger and better things. I agree with Southern Monkey, Rag is OK but not fantastic, the rest of them are run of the mill players.

P.S. The grammar and spelling used by the junior players on this forum is shocking, may I suggest you pay a little more attention in your next English lessons.

there is no north south / divide - especially if we are to beat the danes. Southern monkey doesn't speak for the rest of the southerners (he's in his own little dream world - bless him)
the juniors are, at the moment, the strongest theres been for a while and there is every chance that england can beat the danes with a bit of hard work.
its good to see that the juniors are keen even in their comments on this site. Good luck to you all!

When and where is it being played? maybe it should be more publicised so everyone can come and support the juniors playing

ixxychicken
29th October 2003, 16:10
southern monkey - stop with all the false claims and challenges - its kinda boring and childish! especially as we all know you haven't got the guts to go through with actually playing anyone. Why not make useful comments and constructive criticism instead of all the slagging off of the juniors?
this time next year ed foster, andy ellis, raj and tom dunlop will be out there achieving their potential, and you'll still be here being bitter... so sad.

but if you're man enough southern monkey....or is it southern mouse? ;-) why not actually go through with your 'hard man' claims and organise a exhibition match. I'm sure a lot of people on this site would like to see your skills on court, and if what you say is true(!), you will indeed be helping the juniors.

i am somewhat amused by all this banter regarding juniors etc., the more debate you have the more chance of people taking notice of their acheivements.as for you southern monkey you gave the game away some time ago when referring to your training days and five mile runs with ex national champions!you and i have met many times in the company of one particular southern softie with a "soft" spot for a northern football team.
i enjoy the wind up, keep it going your secret's safe with me!
to the rest of you if you want to give this "monkey" a slapping then i would be happy to arrange a venue, all you need is the ability! (he's no world beater but he can "seriously" play).
why don't we ask a couple of the top juniors to come along and perhaps make a day of it,at least you will find out who the monkey finally is.

Oy!!! Monkey, put a sock in it, and stop typing like you've had your fingers smashed with a lumphammer!! Some of these juniors are improving at a rapid rate and deserve to be encouraged, results against the Danes show this. I can only really comment on Tom Dunlop having played him, but by the looks of it he's improving at a rapid rate. Tom, don't bother with this Southern Monkey, let your racket do the talking, in fact the same to all you England juniors. You're flying the good old St.George well at the moment, so don't worry about this negative crap unless its going to spur you on to perform!!

having been involved with the evolvement of english junior badminton i would like to suggest, in all seriousness, that there is a little merit in what mr southern monkey has to say.it may well be that we "give the danes a wapping" what is important is that those involved in this process continue to do the same. i know from experience that we can compete at this age, what matters to me is that we keep these youngsters involved at the same level as the danes when they become 20 and capable of performing on the big stage. this is what southern monkey is saying.we have had several youngsters, from darren hall onwards who have been superb at the age of 17+ and have won dozens of european titles.what matters is keeping their progress in line with what the danes have achieved.
it's great to see you attack southern monkey and confidently predict that we will succed at this level, but please don't think you are the first, i can tell you you're not. being honest i think the current crop of youngsters are the best for sometime but to be fair we have all been here before. time will tell.
check your records we have had european junior champions at junior level but what did they finish up with? nothing.
the only advice i can give you is to commit to the sport 100% if you don't - no chance! if this is too expensive, you need to educate yourself, you don't fancy it, ok but you've no hope in the big pond.
you have my best wishes.

ps southern monkey - i think i know who you are as well as michael cowan!!!

i know you like to see our juniors doing well. so keep your juniors coaching session going. you used to be a good player. now focus on your coaching and try to become a good southern coach and produce some results rather than spending time here on the web. i like to see your comments. but just use one name, monkey. that suits you well.

your comments are both erroneous and disturbing. yes i know who southern monkey is but i can assure you i am not him.neither am i the other two you mention.
you really ought to pay attention to what you are reading rather than play detective! you are badders answer to clouseau!!
for my part i have been professionally involved in badminton for "over" twenty years, i doubt southern monkey was out of school when i started.
you have the right to call my comments bull****, but could you tell me your background in the sport? your nom de plume is unhelpful in this respect and you have no profile.
if you play then please advise as to your next tournament i guarantee to watch and give you my thoughts on your ability.i sincerely hope it's better than your detective work.
it's great to correspond with you but please don't get really "deep" personal as you will make a complete "monkey" of yourself.
to the rest of the names you mentioned i can only thank them for appearing to be me in your eyes.if there is anybody out there that can vouch for my comments then i would like to hear from you.

vic, i am sorry if you are real. we all are badminton players at different level and we love this game. and now that we have got a great site like this badders.com to discuss and promote our game.but what we are seeing here, is monkey fighing chicken and more monkeys appear in different names to support the king monkey.
juniors thread is very popular and our juniors need loads of encouragement and support.predictions like "she won't make it or he won't make it" and comments like "it is a waste of baofe money" and so on from some of us are not helpful either. i suspected you as monkey because of your comments about simon archer. that is a typical steriotype monkey comment. simon is a great player and a great personality. so your comment about him is not very appropriate, especially soon after achieving such a great publicity in the whole of the sports world not just in badminton. that is why i called your comments as b***sh*t. anyway i am sorry if i upset you.please come back with good comments and support our great game.

thank you for the apology, i accept this in the spirit it was intended. i am DEFINITELY REAL, i do not play, i do not coach, but i am as passionate about the way badminton is managed/governed as anyone else. i have no agenda to "knock" individuals but i have been involved for a very long time and, in my opinion, badminton is not progressing the way it should. the reason i am on the site is that this is nothing new.
however we have to believe in the youngsters ability to come good, if not we might as well pack it in and take up knitting.(no aggravation from the knit one purl one people please)
my comments about the "buzzard"/superstars to which you refer are my view and i stick to them.time will tell if i'm right or wrong about his ability to make it back to the top, like you i will apologise if i'm wrong (and be delighted to do so).
good luck to you and thanks for believing me.

My feelings exactly Vic.
You have explained well to the boys and girls out there what the monkey has been trying to say all along.
The monkey isnt slatting the youngster's of today but making dem realise dat he will respect these young ones when they haven't chucked in the towel at 19 to 21.
The monkster will respect when you is duffin the Danes at 25 and 26 years old and winning the big boyz trophy.

I have to admit Clingfilm that i haven't read any post's from SM or VE that have said the things that you say they have said.
At the end of the day it seems to be you who has been aggressive towards other's.
I am new on this site and play in a small club. I will be going to see the under 17's play at MK now because on reading some of their post, they seem to be very sure of them selves as most young people are and they will probably have to learn the hard way.
I think at their age they should be able to take constructive critism by now.

tomdunlop
6th November 2003, 18:01
so your sayin that constructive critiscm is callin us crap and tellin us were not gonna make it? oh right, makes sense! maybe u should take this constructive critiscm and get off the site?! we need to hear people supporting us telling us that we have good potential and not sayin were crap! after all, if none of us make it then badminton could be really doomed! if we get beat then fair enough but we dont need people tellin us that were gonna get whipped and there's no chance!

Lyphane

The problem is that their are so many decent players evolving that are not getting any recognition for their skills.

I saw this kid last week who had the most perculiar yet unique style. This kid was very overweight, after having just broken the record for the 'most pies in a minute' competition. His opponent hit the shuttle deep into the backhand corner, and I was just standing there thinking 'how on earth would be get that?'

What I saw next was quite revolutionary. The boy tucked his head, arms and legs into the layers of flap to make a perfect sphere and with a cry, 'Let's roll!', rolled straight to the backhand corner in a flash. Then as the shuttle came towards him, he took his right arm out along with the racket, and power rolled into it. The power he got behind it was amazing.

I dont want to have a go, but I've seen people who can do net shots quicker that some of you can smash and as for the angle you get on the... well... I think a new word should be introduced to badminton vocabulary, and that is 'smear'. This would be used to describe a shot could be a smash or a clear, for all those moments of uncertainty.

Tom i don't know how good you are but on reading this thread last night can't help but think that reason why you are being challenged is because of your attitude towards peoples views.

I didn't read any negative critism from any post on this thread. Nobody has said as you claim that you are not gunna make it?
All people seem to be saying that they would like to see you competing against the Danish team in your later years not just now because this is nothing new or special.
Try dropping the attitude because this is what people don't like.

so your sayin that constructive critiscm is callin us crap and tellin us were not gonna make it? oh right, makes sense!
>>

Welcome to the real world.

>>
maybe u should take this constructive critiscm and get off the site?!
>>

I don't see the question, but I do see the question mark.

>>
we need to hear people supporting us telling us that we have good potential and not sayin were crap!
>>

"Ahem. Tom, you've got great potential. You are not crap."

>>
after all, if none of us make it then badminton could be really doomed!
>>

In this country, yes. The Danes, however, would have a badminton boom. No pressure.

>>
if we get beat then fair enough but we dont need people tellin us that were gonna get whipped and there's no chance!
>>

Oh don't worry about that, Im sure they don't go too far out of their way. Just be grateful for it.

I saw tom last year in a tournament and he was not a bad talent to have. He was a bit to slow around the court but with some shaddow under his belt he might make it.
