What did people think of the TV coverage?

Sky - I thought Sky coverage was good. I'm not sure who owned the camera work...But the camera angles and shots they managed to obtain captured the whole event atmosphere and some of the close up work was brilliant. The Commentry team was good. I didn't think much of the 'studio' discussions though. It seemed to be very low key and the guest presenters lacked some confidence.

I think both guest pundits did well as this is something quite new, but just seemed to lack any real zip or energy, often just re-wording the question that was put to them. The titles and introduction showreel was the same as used in previous 'bits' of badders on TV...and was a bit 'old hat'. Then, yesterday they played a montage of all the games over the event and with it played some 'up beat music' - a bit like the montages they put on at wimbledon when it's raining! This was great, packed with energy and fun and showed a great selection of higlights.

BBC - A totally different feel to this. I was really comfortable with the presenters and to have Jo Goode in as a guest presenter and having Simon Archer in the commentry box was brilliant.

Both had a lot to say about the games and were committed to what they were saying. Often giving their 'opinions' without having to be too PC. It was a relaxed atmosphere (similar set up to the Winter Olympics studio)

Overall a good roundup of TV coverage. Let's hope that the TV companies will commit more to Badminton, from now on.

I couldn't comment on the Sky coverage unfortunately, but as far as the BBC's coverage - it was absolutely brilliant. I think the content was particularly good for those who do not understand the game who may have just tuned in to see what badminton is all about, whilst at the same time was also informative to the "professionals" like ourselves. Well done the BBC. Lets hope there is more of this in the future.

Linda

I must admit, I was pretty disappointed with the BBC coverage. Having been promised 75 minutes of action, to then spend 20 of those 75 minutes on 'chat' was a bit of a let down. Considering I've not had a chance to see top-class badders on tv for a few years (I don't have Sky), I felt a bit cheated!

Regarding the action, did anyone think Gong Ruina's backhand serve in the ladies' singles was a foul? She kept placing the shuttle, THEN bringing her racquet up to it, but it was never called a fault. Any idea why?

Sadly I agree with Nigel - of 75 minutes, a large chink was taken up by 'badminton bites' or interviews. It is a shame because the games we did see were really very good! Again, I only saw it on the BBC, but does anyone know when they will be showing another game? Finally badminton is getting some air time after the olympics - but not enough! M.

Sue,
If you go into the News section on this site and scroll down a few articles you'll come to the one about 'All England LIVE updates' - in there is a link to follow for actual scores and results for each of the disciplines.

I was interested to hear Simon Archers comments on the scoring system. He thought that the games up to seven were too short and felt nine would be better. I have started to get used to the new scoring now but I do think his suggestion was a good one.
