We are a small Club based in Tenterden In Kent. We play Division 1 Ashford & District League and Division 5 in the Hastings League. We are desperate for new members, wanting to play league or non league - anyone interested please reply!!

You are not the only one!
I am at Lampeter University, and it has been a struggle this last academic year to find enthusiasm and memebers.
I dont know what the situation is like down your way, but here, a lot more funding and promotion goes into football and hockey from the University itself, along with a lot of influence.
Hopefully next year, our badminton team will be able to capitalise on the huge amounts of Chinese, Japanese and Korean students that we tend to have an influx of!
Anyone with ideas for promoting badminton: please let me know!

Lucky you, the chinese are brilliant at badders!!!
We only have 12 members & are struggling with injuries so it isnt fair on the one that want to play.
Good luck on your recruiting, if anyone moves to kent - promote my club!!!

Indeed, perhaps I should get them drunk and force them to play - 'cause they are not doing so yet! Similar situation - we have five/six regulars, have difficulty fielding a BUSA side, and no coaching etc. Yes, getting the chinese drunk sounds like a very good idea....... Good luck with yours! M.

Martyn,
Mmmm...Lampeter Uni....I remember playing there in a UW match in 1979/80 when I was playing for UCNW Bangor! Practically took the whole day to get there, played the match, then travelled back straight away, having only played about 60 minutes of badminton!
I seem to recall that Lampeter also had a problem back then getting decent players who were willing to play - obviously nothing's changed! Hope you have better luck soon! Is badminton still included in UW matches or has it died a death?

Yes, badminton is still going for the weslsh university's as a BUSA league. Its nice to know that peoples perception of Lampeter has not changed! At least I know it is not us doing something wrong. Our membership is very small - apparently it was big about four years ago - the then president put a lot of effort into encouraging the team profile. We still cant win our matches though! Badminton does not seem to have the prestiege of football or rugby - that is its major problem. It needs coverage, funding and individuals who add a spark - something the public can get into. And everyone at Lampeter is very complacent, so our team is stuffed either way!
