What do most people opt for?
I tend to have have my racket around the 23/24lbs mark on thin microfilament synthetic string.

Use the talbot 3000, i string mine at 28/30Lbs, but know that they can easily be strung to 32/34Lbs.

Isn't that extremely taught? Do you not notice the loss of control?

When i started playing with a higher tension i did notice a slight loss of control, however after playing with it a few times i got use to it. Much like the transition between plastics and feather.

I find the feathered birds much easier to caress and control while the plastics birds are a little bit more rigid. I find when I'm playing with them it's just crash bang whollop.
Mind you, I haven't had a plastic bird since I was a youngser.

Yer easier to judge distance with them aswell. The only plastic ive found that is any good is the Yonex Mavis 300. But only play with them about twice a year, which feathers do you play with?

Michael, I was giving you some respect but it appears to have been wasted. I would never dream of playing with plastics, any player born with talent would know this.
Top players only play with feathers, none of this Mavis 300 plastic nonsense. I play with Yonex Tournament feathers - the best in the business.
Perhaps you should come down and see some real shuttles and players in action?
If I use any shuttles other than the Yonex Tournament, I just find I explode the bird with one jump smash.

Michael, another wind up merchant, ignore them.
To say that plastics are not worth playing with is truly ignorant. There are many out there who manage with plastics fine - maybe they want the durability or perhaps it suits their game.
Top players exclusively use feathers - but players who prefer plastics are just as much badminton players as those who use feathers.

You're being very ignornat Grover. Everyone who has an opinion different to yours seems to be a wind up merchant.
Any decent player would use feathered shuttles. I'm talking about top players of which I'm one myself. From your comment it's obvious that you play at a very poor standard. However, you're very quick to add your opinion on all threads including top class badminton discussions.
Why don't you just stick to the discussions re: plastic shuttles, church halls and mixed double tactics and leave the top class badminton to those who know it.
I'm not a wind up merchant, I just refuse to respect the comments of anybody who isn't good enough to play with a feathered shuttle.

Thanks Tony, someone with sense.
Daniel, we all start on plastics and work up to feathers. Anyone who feels they are a world talent and thinks plastics are better than feathers has to be just the slightest bit insane.
Can't remember the last time I saw a top tournament that used platics. Even the younger teens tournaments use feathers!

Probabaly true that people start off playing with plastics and then turn to feathers - i know that i did. But you cant say that people who play with plastics are rubbish - they may just feel that they suit their game better. Your right the yonex are a good shuttle (i normally play with them), but they are also some equally good shuttles on the market.
Also Grover has reached a very high standard of play and its not right to dis him like that!

Well back on to the original topic!
I can compare my usual tension gut 23lbs with BG65 at 30lbs and also 40lbs on a Carlton AS1.
The sweet spot size decreases the higher the tension. The power of 23 and 30 is simmilar but the control of 30 is far better than that of 23 and 40.
The power of 30 is better than that of 40, with 40 you have to mentally judge the shots because the feel is not there.

morrisey however good you are there are always better out there! If you think your so good how come we don't see you competing at international level? Ummmmmm...............SIMPLY BECAUSE YOUR YOU DONT HAVE THE TALENT OR SKILL!!
If you read what Grover said PROPERLY, he only plays with plastics twice a year at the most. SO WHAT if he knows the names of plastic shuttle brands and ranges available. He may be a badminton fanatic as well as a high level player, therefore he knows whats available from retailers, it doesn't mean prefers to use them. From what he said, not that you've read it properly, he only plays with plastics twice a yr at the most. This clearly shows he prefers to play with feathers and not plastics. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!!
morrisey, the production of feather shuttles is decreasing because new generations refuse to to look after duck/goose farms. Imagine in the next 50yrs feather shuttles were no more what are you going to use?
Answer: YOU'LL PICK UP A NYLON SHUTTLE!!
Your not worth the hassle anymore, word of advice 'respect other peoples opinions, NOT JUST YOUR OWN!!
PS: I didn't bother putting a capital letter in your username because you don't deserve one

Dear Phil,
I was told by many of some people that BG65 at 30lb X 28lb is the best. Have you tried that on AT700? That guy told me that BG65 at 30x28 is optimized for the design of that particular string. It's as good as BG88ti(which is very expensive).
Anybody has tried?
