My son Anthony is eleven and is extremely tall for his age. Every coach seems to have the same opinion that he should smash his way through games. Being so tall his smashes are effective, but I just worry when his peers catch him up in size they will have developed their all round skills more than my son.

Is it right to win at all costs at such a young age or should I find a coach that will develop his all round game?

What happens when the guys he plays with get wise to the smash and are able to return it with ease.

Get the all round game sorted, especially drives if he is tall

Thanks Phil.

Does anybody know of any good coaches in the Leicester area that can teach my son. They will have to have a great deal of patience because his english is not that good. He used to play in Greece but has recently moved to live with me and has not picked up the language as yet.

He uses a new yonex racket and the latest Hi-Tech shoes. His ambition is to play for England.

It's fine if the child is playing in a tournament, one set down, and has the ability to smash through a game!

but to give advice like that in general training is rather "interesting", cos smashing is only one aspect of the game,
and his peers will be catching up in no time!

Basically if it works use it!!! But don't rely on it!!!
