Hi,

Can some one explain to me the heirachy of leagues in the UK?

At the lowest level there seems to be district leagues, with a county wide league above that? what is above that?

Can any club enter into any of these leagues? and if so how and who decides what division they should be in?

Many thanks!

The short answer is there is no structure. In Essex there are district leagues some of which are affliated to the BAof E. The local league committee decide if a club can join and which divisions teams play in. The county league is run by the county association and they decide who can join and what divisions they play in. There is no promotion or relegation between county and district leagues in Essex. There is no regional or national club league in England. There is a national county badminton league and the players for the county teams are picked from club teams playing in a county or district league.

Hi Ed, delighted to see how active you are on this site.

I have to say that I am still concerned that there are only three district leagues in Essex who affiliate to the County and B A of E.

Can some greater effort be made to bring the others on board, perhaps with help from BA of E.

Thanks for your comment Mike. I share your concern. Colchester and East Essex have recently returned to Essex and the BAof E. This was achieved by the efforts of the Colchester committee and the BA of E. Essex and the BA of E are working with Colchester to obtain funding for the refurbishment of Monkwick Sports Centre as a badminton centre of excellence. In future years it will be possible to apply for other such projects under the BA of E Community Club Development Program. Interested leagues and county BA's can obtain details of this national program from the BA of E.
From the Essex point of view we would very much like to beome a whole family of affliated leagues again. The Essex County BA will be making efforts to attract more leagues back. The difficulty is of course the impact of affliation fees on club finances. With the increasing cost of insurance unaffliated clubs will find that being part of the national BA of E scheme will bring cost savings.

The Essex County BA is currently working on a new website and contact details are now available.
