Often people playing a "higher level" of badminton forget that newcomers to the sport cannot be expected to pick up a racket and start playing like a county or international player.
There obviously has to be a natural progression from beginner to more experienced player to county/international player. This is why I feel the badminton leagues are so important as they can help to accommodate the less experienced players who want to play more competitively to the county player who wants more practice. These leagues need the support of all players within the appropriate area.
Our two local leagues the Solihull & Birmingham leagues are starting to make a comeback within the community and I hope they continue to do so. They need everybody's continual support.
Their respective websites are:-

Do the leagues around Birmingham still use plastic shuttles?
If so, doesn't this make it progression up into the higher standards difficult?

Does anyone know a club nearest to "Selley Oak" that plays on Saturday evening or Sunday? Thanks in advance

Most teams in the Birmingham and Solihull leagues play with feathers, although it is only compulsory to do so in the first divisions of the Birmingham League. This has been the case for many years.
There are many county players who play in the Birmingham First Division. One of the highest ranked players who regularly plays is Chris Tonks who has been doing very well in some of the satellite tournaments recently. This is why I stick to my original points.
I know that the Coventry leagues also use feathers.

The only three clubs that play in the leagues on the weekend are KRS, Bidgeley & Four Oaks. If you look at the Birmingham League website & venues, you will see that the names of the clubs. The contact names are correct but the venues & times are not entirely correct. I know that KRS (they have most of the county players) play on Sunday afternoons but in West Bromwich.
Another alternative is Fox Hollies who play on a Sunday night at the Fox Hollies Leisure centre. They play with plastic shuttles but the standard is very reasonable.
