I would like to announce a new free resource for players, coaches and researches, beginners to elite level.

'Badmintology' is a resource that aims to cover all aspects of playing and coaching the game.

At the moment there is only a small amount of information on there but it will be continually added to so please come back regularly. Hopefully you will like the rebounds and tension article.

It is written by myself - Joe Wright and Martin Wells who is the England U19 coach.

Access: http://www.martinwells.com and click on Badmintology

I'm glad you liked it. I hope you'll be coming back for months and years as the scope of the project is huge.

I've just added some more core text plus information on blisters

Thanks (oh and the new link was a bonus :) )

I am working on something big for Badmintology and hopefully I will add stuff in the mean team. Probably next will be something on injuries and inflammation (time to stop all the nonsense that goes on).

it says in the site (grate site by the way) that taping over areas of skin which have peeled away is useful when playing? is this true, cos i have badass sections of skin on my feet where the skin has peeled away and is raw.

Well the advice is to tape vulnerable areas. If you feet are currently in a bad state then you can try this but you may find a week or two (full skin cycle is 28 days I think) of rest is needed before starting afresh with the new preventative measures.

it says in the site (grate site by the way) that taping over areas of skin which have peeled away is useful when playing? is this true, cos i have badass sections of skin on my feet where the skin has peeled away and is raw.

You could also try things like specific blister plasters which absorb the moisture under the blister to make it heal quickly afterall blisters are basically friction burns on the feet. Also blister preventing socks which again at best two pairs of socks as one, instead of one layer the sock is seamed at the toe but is two thin layers as opposed to one thicker layer.

The aim behind this strategy is so that one layer moves with the foot and one with the shoe prventing the rubbing and causing less friction.

failing that you could always wear two pairs of thin running socks when playing to give the same effect.

besides trying to heal your feet, please also:
1 pay special attetion to possible infection from fugi and bacteria...when there's wound, the structure and immune system of the skin will be weaken and get infected more easily

2 inspect the fit of the shoes that you are using...many a time this kind of peeling is caused by the shoes design and fit and one can prevent it from recurring from switching to a better fit....

i) in my past experience, prince has good indoor shoes with excellent protection to feet skin, ultra-good shock absoption with quick response although it was not designed specifically for badminton. the model that i like is "scream tt"

ii) the second one is Mizuno...it's designed mainly for badminton and has many advance feature. Mizuno is the No. 1 indoor brand in Japan. Most ppls in our gym wear Mizuno for badminton. most ppls in our gym say that it's far superior to YY as badminton shoes in durablility, comfort, response, protection from injury(tell you a story, when my wife was working for Reebok, we needed to buy everything sports-related Reebok except that we were allowed to buy Mizuno indoor shoes).

iiii) we'll use Prince for most of the training(it's heavier but the shock aborption is exceptionally good so that long-time practicing will produce less harm to the joint) and Mizuno for most of the competition(it's lighter and faster)

get well soon

Although we do have Prince badminton shoes they are bulky, we have never had Mizuno badminton in the UK.

Their indoor speceifc shoes are a bit bulky for badminton.

If only we stayed in Asia we would have a better choice in the footwear department :(

1 Prince is indeed bulky....that's why it's only good for long hour training, i think...Prince's stregth is on shock absorption and protection(so that training will cause less harm)...

2 Do u have Mizuno volley ball shoes in UK? i just confirmed with the badminton chinese coach(he's a genius in sports, he coaches on badminton, table-tennis, basketball, and taking a licensing test on tennis) who also has extensive and high level involvement in volley ball that the footwork of volley ball is more or less the same as badminton. if one can find a pair of Mizuno volley shoes, that should be good enough.(many of my friends said that even the mizuno volley ball shoes are much better than the badminton shoes of all other brands, including YY!!!)
