View Full Version : this forum is becoming boring

it seems to me that over the past few weeks this forum has become boring and I don't wish to post anymore. All the controversy that is posted gets deleted or a thread that suddenly becomes popular gets locked. people complain about the threads that are made or the comments that are made but those comments are the only thing that keeps this site interesting. without them people will lose interest and eventually no-one will look at this forum.

Absolutely agree, its becoming very pc!! how about relaxing the rules site support? Nobody really wants to read boring stuff all the time. The most popular discussions whether it be here or on tv are the contraversial ones thats why people tune in. Maybe badders could create a no holds barred site for people who really want to get stuff off their chest..??

We are sorry you fell this way. Please feel free to leave the forum or stop posting. This will then allow the people who wish to read and post to do so.

The moderators on the forums within Badders.com (and there are hundreds of forums) do a really great job.

We try and keep as much of the hassle and aggravation we receive away from the forum discussion but as you have brought it up we will comment briefly.

Firstly, the site will live on and continue for as long as there is demand (and we currently get over 30,000 visitors a month). Individuals come and go and we respect that...maybe one day you will choose to come back and join in. The choice is yours.

Why do posts and threads get deleted? A number of reasons.

For example, we have two bright sparks who have now accumulated over 73 registrations between them. They know who they are and we know who they are. It is difficult to abuse the forum as we have a very effective audit trail and the ISP's such as BT, Freeserve, MSN are all very helpful when tracking individuals down. Email providers are also very helpful - Hotmail and Bigfoot to name a couple.

We also have some posts that are rude, use unacceptable swear words and racist. I'm sure most members appreciate that these type of posts should be removed.

Then there are the members with several user names that try and have a conversation with themselves on a single thread to get their 'political' point across ;o) We find this quite humorous, but again, not really appropriate.

If anyone has any issues with our policies please email us and we will be more than happy to discuss these away from the forum.

Site Support :o)

PS. Mr Magoo, it would be so much better if you use one of your original user ID's without having to register a new name 'just' to respond on this thread. We have no issues with political correctness and many posts we refuse to take down even though we get multiple requests to remove them.

We do take posts down that break the forum rules and will continue to do so.

Point taken Mr Magoo, but you still have a number of registrations that have not been suspended. ;o)

Is that 30,000 unique visitors or just hits? I find it hard to believe that Badders.net has 30,000 registering each month.

I like the site, however I have to agree with "secret alias" that it has become a little stale. It seems to me that the same people post on a regular basis, which is the reason I find it difficult to believe that 30,000 people use your site each month. Apart from the forum, the site hardly ever changes so what do the other 29,980 people do on here?

Site Support
5th November 2003, 12:14
Please read the original post properly. We said that we have 30,000 unique visitors...not people registering (although we wish we did!)

We have over 300 active forums on the site. This is what Badders.com is all about - providing communication tools to leagues and clubs. There are many clubs and leagues using the news management systems, the event calendars and their own forums.

The general forum is relatively well populated with visitors but is only a small part of the site.

30,000 visitors?! That's amazing!! I have looked but I couldn't see Badders.net listed in The Daily Mail's top 100 websites. Wow, what is your advertising budget? Can you share some of your marketing secrets?

You must be making a mint, are you positive that's 30,000 unique visitors? I hope you're not trying to pull the wool over our eyes?

Continue to grow like this Badders and you'll be bigger than Google next year!

Site Support
5th November 2003, 12:28
Thank you for your support.

We have no need to advertise widely as most referrals are through word of mouth and search engines.

As has been our philosophy since the beginning, we do this for the badminton community and badminton supporters like you, our goal financially is to cover our costs.

If we ever reached the size of Google then we would be very happy :o)

I don't want to get 'off thread' but out of curiosity, could you confirm that you receive 30,000 unqiue visitors each month?

Thanks Grover, but my name isn't Big Ian it's Big Captain.

I wasn't giving it large in any way, shape or form. Site Support reitterated their point and I'm interested in how many people use their site. What's wrong with that?

Some of us care a lot about this forum and we don't want to see it ruined by the likes of you, just give it a rest and if you care about badminton as you say you do then say something constructive.

i really do feel you are too aggressive, everyone has a right to ask questions.
if people wish to remain anonymous then again they have the right.
your point could be better made if you toned down your remarks.
chill my man, you'll give yourself a coronary.

give the "captain" a straight answer, if you have the numbers flaunt 'em!!

Michael, don't confuse aggression with passion, badminton is a lifeline for many of us and we don't want that spoiled. Who gives a flying fudge how many people log on here, i enjoy reading what people have to say, except for the *********** who try and cause grief!!!

I have read some of the very best and interesting posts regarding badminton here in this site. It's true that someone who tried to "blacken" this site says that the site is boring. That's not true. If we can exculde or "ignore" some of the "insensitive posts", this site will definitely be better.

Moreover, to the badminton fan, this is good but to nonbadders it might be boring.

Let's work to make this badminton fun, like introducing some friends.

Loafer

Well well, lots of interesting comments

I would just like to add my two penneth.

I dont beleive the forum is getting boring. It is a general but badminton related forum therefore the talk is supposed to be focused on badminton. I have expressed my concerns posts being removed and locked(where i felt it was a little over sensitive) to site support in the place it belongs, in the forum for site feedback.

There is also an off topic forum which clearly states it is for non-badders specific chat and anything goes as long as it is not too rude and offensive. Again a perfectly acceptable postion to take.

I would politely suggest that if people used the site as it was intended - ie post in the correct forums there would be less need to move posts and if people stuck to the posting rules, there would be no need to lock or delete posts and threads, or indeed, ban users.

Of course there will always be the socially retarded amongst us who find it entertaining to hi-jack the threads with ridiculous, irrelevant or deliberately inflamatory posts simply to try and upset other users and the site support staff.

On this i can only say, without regressing back down the evolutionary ladder, site support, you will never effectively communicate with the offenders and the rest of us should have the common sense to simply ignore their comments.

I have only used this site for a few months and on the whole have enjoyed the "experience"

I have fallen foul of some of the immature element that insist on posting and dealt with them as i see fit. I have also fallen foul of site support's delete button but again, i took appropriate recourse via the feedback forum.

Please have some common sense and keep the site as it should be. An entertaining outlet for chat both badders related and not.

Don't make me laugh Goover and Loafer.

This site is interesting...............are we looking at the same site ?

I find it strange that once again Goover is asking for members to use their proper names when he or she is not.

Mr Magoo, Cowan and Honesty are very correct in their views. I wish this was not the case regarding this site being DULL but it is a fact so lighten up you 10 people who keep posting as these few people will not ruin your precious site.

This site is crap! The forum is poor. The thing is that the people who try to be sensible talk utter ball bags, most of them are probably club players without a clue and just follow the herd and post what gill clark says in her commentary. Most posters only really know about the all england and base a players status on their performance at the all england. Badmintoncentral.com is more exciting because people have good views on things and talk about every tournament.

People who posted abuse at the baofe or tried to post a good point that might offend our english players get booted off. To be honest they made this site interesting.

Not many but if they do then they are hypocritical of the posters on here who use different alias's because they must use different alias's. I think also it is more worldwide on badmintoncentral.

Is kind of dull with all the old faces gone!

Please don't be too obsessive with the "old". When I looked at your current posts here, you still made a lot of fun out of the so called "dull" site. :D

With the gone of the "old", I think there's a real challenge here to make this site more fun than before. Let's do some SWOT analysis, considering alternatives to increase fun...make this a happy corner for all.

During hisslor's short career here, he made a very good post about this:

It's very paradoxical: if you can make a good post/thread here, the viewship is higher than some of the "international site". Things move so fast in some sites that even If one puts a very good post there, the post will simply sink to nowhere.

I think most site has some +ve and -ve. This site seems to be local but it has a lot of "flame" like Scotts vs Englander, Junior debates, some Danish loves to tease the performance of the British(I'm so inspired to a point that I am very tempted to start putting some provocative comments like Chinese vs Danmark), hehehe.

In my humble experience, some runner site has some trafic jam and the moderators there just can't take in more posts/thread. They veiw new thread as threat. That running site that I came across didn't welcome or treasure new posts.....after posting a few hundreds, you are still newbie.

smashin' has very good observation. like smashin's experience, i really had received a lot more "educational help" (through PM or public posts)from members here than else where. i posted the "same problem" in here and somewhere but i'm really very grateful to this forum that i got the best support from here indeed :D

As you will have seen from recent months we have taken a back step and let the discussions take their course. We will continue to do this and try and stay in the back ground without getting involved unless necessary.

However, there are certain things that are unacceptable and one is purposefully rubbishing the forum...especially using multiple accounts.

We will leave the posts in here as an example but this is the last time as the next occurrences will get deleted and the user banned.

Badderboy, Hisslor, Volkine, Lyphane, Vorpulus and the 20-30 or so other names you post under - instead of setting up threads to abuse the forum please go to your other forums and post there.

If you think it is 'that' boring then please leave and let those who want to chat get on with it.
