i have spoken with Andy, the yonex distributor and he says he can't get hold of any mp 100's - he says they're like gold dust! (alas someone this week asked him the same question!!)

I asked him about the nearest equivalent and he said the 'mp99' or the 'armortec 700'

these links maybe helpful

http://www.ishop.co.uk/ishop/677/shopscr710.html

http://www.racketsplus.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=1

http://www.rapidrepair.biz - place to get mp99 or arm. 700

good luck.

ps: the racquet on eBay is now at £52 reserve not met!!

Tango,

It's me who have posted the MP100 in Ebay. Rest assured they are genuine. Any questions, please feel free to ask. I don't sell fake rackets. Look at my ratings.

i apologise if you misunderstood what i said. i was in no way stating the racquet was fake, i read the description and that's why i mentioned it on this site.

i said 'proceed with caution' because 1. if he's not familiar with auctions he may get excited and bit way over the worth (i've done it myself!) and 2. i didn't want to seem like i was telling him that was the best option - lots of people are cautious of auctions and i didn't want to be blamed should anything have gone wrong.

I hope the racquet sold for a good price and IF James is looking again for a racquet then MAYBE you will be his first port of call.

all comments are my own and without prejudice

Hi Guys,

It is actually me who is the highest bidder on the ebay auction at the moment - it's for a friend who has had a go of my MP100 and wanted one himself but isn't an ebay member.

Tango is right about using caution on ebay - i have heard there is a person based in the US (California) who is selling fake Yonex on ebay but i have indeed looked at Robins feedback and have no doubts about the racquets he sells and their authenticity.

Best regards,

James

Tango,

No need to apologised for it. I just thought i should let you guys know the validity of the racket better. If i were to bid on Ebay, i will indeed be cautious of buying a high end racket at this price. So, you are right to be careful. Infact, i should thank you for introducing the racket to James. ;0)

I got this racket when i went back home to Singapore. I could not find one here and thought of buying a few to help me pay for my own racket. I have got MP 22, 24 and 77 myself. The MP 100 racket comes unstrung intially. I instructed the seller to string it with 'black' Yonex BG68 Titanuim strings.

James, the racket comes in this special casing, I don't know how to describe it. It's kind of leathery material. It's not the normal synthetic casing you get in UK. I will also throw in a top end grip (PACIFIC brand) you can't possibly find in the UK.

Please feel free to email me for further questions. PS: Since racket is from Singapore, It has the wordings 'SP' in front of the serial number.

Best Regards,

Robin

You can still get them in Sports shops in Glasgow but they are the UK 2U spec not the earlier advertised Eastern (SP - Southern Pacific region) 3U which is a much more responsive version and an import without a genuine warranty because it's not a UK code or serial number!

The price? Still £150.

robinhood
21st March 2004, 23:06
The SP version has its own serial number which can be checked with the manufacturer.

Phil McBride
22nd March 2004, 06:28
You don't understand my post!

A racket purchased in Singapore is marked with an SP prefix on the serial number to show that the country of intended origin is Singapore and not Germany, U.S.A., Denmark, UK etc.

It was destined for the Singaporean retail market and not intended for sale in the UK, the same with all other prefixes on Yonex rackets except the UK one!

The racket will only have a valid warranty in the country of intended sale, what I mean by that is that if you tried to return a faulty racket with a structural imperfection to Yonex UK with a prefix other than a UK one they would laugh at you, and you would be the cost of the racket down.

In order for the warranty to be valid you would have to return the racket (assuming something was wrong) to Singapore and have Yonex Singapore inspect it. Postage charges!

Robin - just in case you don't get this post I'm not saying there is anything wrong with your racket only the difficulties in purchasing an imported racket.

And Robin there is no way to inspect the serial number and compare it with Yonex since they very rarely keep records of them! The only thing they mean to us is a possible batch number and manufacture date.

Hi Guys,

I bought the last MP100 from tennisnuts.

Does anyone know why yonex stopped producing the MP100 - I much prefer it to my MP99 as it feels slightly heavier in the head region and helps get the shuttle down quicker in the smash.

Michael Banks
22nd March 2004, 09:53
So that people would be encouraged to try new rackets rather than stick with their existing one. As a racket now lasts much longer than they used to, they need to maintain the churn to keep racket sales up.

robinhood
22nd March 2004, 10:18
Phil, I am not aware of the returning of a faulty racket due to manufacturer fault. If that's the case then yes there is a risk of buying imported racket. But i would say its difficult to return a broken racket and claim for compensation due to manufacturer's fault. It's difficult to tell. All my previous rackets were bought in UK. I have not tried returning then as they are fine.

James, i am glad you have got the MP100. i am sure you would like it. I was trying to get hold of this racket 6 months ago but could not get hold of it here in UK. hence i got them from back home.

I got my 2 MP100s when i went over to Singapore last year. I have not tried the UK version but mine are fine. I also had a hard time looking for one in UK at that time. Maybe i did not search enough.

We are announcing that we will be making changes to the eBay.co.uk fee structure effective from January 20th 2004. Reserve Price fees on the general site will be changing. All quoted fees include VAT (17.5% for UK residents)

In my opinion, sign up to eBay and wait for a free listing day!! i hope this answers your question?

You are lucky. I am in Singapore on holidays at the moment. I have contacted the suppliers, they have the last batch of MP100 shipping to Thailand Hence TH markings on the rackets. Do you want them?

Phil,

FYI, SP = Singapore not South Pacific. I have been looking around and it's quite difficult to spot a 3U MP100 racket. Most of them are 2U.

Regards,

Robin

Phil McBride
5th April 2004, 07:23
Robin, there are 2 types of SP racket. The most prevalent is the one with SP painted on the shaft which is for sale in many countries (Southern Pacific region) not just the Singapore distrabution area so Yonex can make the same racket and change the prefix when they need to.

The other is the SP prefix which is for sale in Singapore only (well unless it is exported) and in Asia the two weights were released with the 3U being the most popular, that is probably why you cant find any since they have been discontinued and mainly the unpopular 2U's remain, the UK was only graced with the 2U release.

Only the Cab 10 and 20 will be released in the UK at the moment and there's another reason why it sucks big time to stay in the UK.

Unless you know someone that imports ;)

Which two? The cab's that I have tried are mostly defensive rackets and lack that power that the newer Iso's do. Also Iso rackets are more forgiving with badly timed and mis-hits because of the larger sweet spots.

Cabs are mainly a racket loved by the Asian community because they grew up with them but us westerners were never exposed to them in the same way, we seem to love the technology that comes with every new racket release.

I've been trying to import some Cab 20's with the CN/CP prefix. But they are very rare at the moment and you have to try hard to get them.

Another thing about the Cabs is that they tend to be 2U (you can get 3U but they seem to stick with the original release weight) where as newer rackets tend to be 3U and even now since the AT's 4U.

I still like the MP100 but they were always too stiff and it took me ages to find a 3U. They seem to be going the way of the CP/CN cab 20's

robinhood
12th April 2004, 17:34
Phil, I saw the Cab 30 when i was back home last week. It comes with the MP technology. Yes, i grew up knowing only the Cab rackets back in my younger years. I manage to get some 3U MP-100 for my mates this trip back.

Phil McBride
12th April 2004, 18:06
The only Cab for the last while is the Cab20MP, although there are many different variations of the "Wonder Cab"

It's a shame you can't get cab's with CN/CP prefixes.
