U15 quad team was a bit of a shocker, in particular 3 inconsistant participants. i mean how could they leave future legends such as fraser murray and james mackay out of the team...i mean...talk about team spirit,non-existant with out these 2 players i believe. Particularly James MacKay after his tremendous 3 set victory over U17's steven Curran.
The English team is surely quite laughable if they think they could lift the title. Makes the tourny look a bit of a joke when they dont put there best team forward. The individual event should possess no big problems for scotlands number 1 singles players.Although the dubbies event might prove to b more interesting, with a probable replay of this years U15 nationals final. My moneys on the West Boys
Any Thoughts?

yea couple of players in team was a surprise, but were selectors at any comps part from nationals. most of team u wood expect.
whot does haffa jaffa no bout english, give them a chance - sure our players will show more respect or it will be embarassing, english girls are strong.
also there are 2 other teams coming, don't write them off.

Haffa,

where do you get all your info re the opposition, from your mates who have played a couple of challengers.

even more so what do you know about the welsh or irish. u just cum across as cocky and arrogant.

shut up and let the players sort it out on court. how can you say who you think will win when you probably don't even know the name of one welsh or irish player.

think it is obvious who is prompting you as his name has been mentioned a few times in this thread and the 16 comments - give us a break, let it rest until the games are played

HaffaJaffa
6th April 2004, 02:36
shut up u fool, no one is prompting me!

r u trying to tell me that scotland wont win hands down!?!?

And yes i do know some Welsh and Irish players so dont patronise me and show ur ignorance!

Stop taking this website so seriously!

And what u mean give 'us' a break?! ur the only 1 moaning...twat!!

Does anyone know in what order the players are selected to play ? I take it Linda & Kieran will play no. 1 singles, but who do you think will play no.2 for boys & girls ?

jimmimacjones
6th April 2004, 16:04
The boys should be stephen mcphail but it could be any of three girls? Does anybody know which one it is?

HaffaJaffa

Ally Marr

I presume the selectors will decide on the day who they think will deal with the pressure of the big games.

auldyin
6th April 2004, 18:24
Full details of the squad were posted yesterday as a press release on the badminton scotland website - 5 boys / 5 girls - the listed names may give some idea regarding order - i.e the Sloan girls leading the way.

Not sure about the mixed though. What are your thoughts?

I would agree with Saddo that it may be best to allow the team to do their talking on court?!

jimmimacjones
6th April 2004, 18:24
I thought that linda sloan's little sister would be second singles after she won the nationals when evryone was under pressure, she was tha one who came out on top.

saddo
7th April 2004, 11:02
picking a team is all about tactics and keeping the opposition guessing.surelay whole idea is to win the match, so selectors will place the players in the games they think they need them.it's not about who is the best singles player but who can win the important games taking account of everything.
agree with david, pressure comes in to it.who won a minor tournie at say cockburn not important, find out who played well at challengers when they come up against different opposition not just the players they know.

Frame
7th April 2004, 13:28
Tom, you seem to have some doubts about the mixed. I take it Roya & Duncan have been picked because of their success at the Nationals, should they not be no. 1 ?
There may be some other pairings not tried before which are potentially strong. Linda & ??????, Peter & ???????

sharkbait
7th April 2004, 16:39
I think that Ally and Kenneth derserve to be ahead of Roya and Duncan. Although Roya and Duncan are the national champions, Ally and Kenneth have had more success recently. So what do you think?

home
7th April 2004, 17:57
who cares who is ahead of who, r u not all in the same team trying to win team matches.
success for A & K???? did they win a local tournament but fail at the nationals or if they have had notable success like doing well at a tournament outside Scotland please tell. who cares who wins the west or east u15 when all top players are not even playing.
look at the bigger picture, can they beat english pairings who generally are better at doubles - how did they perform at the challengers if they played any.
surely as saddo said it is the tactical picking of the team that is important rather than the pathetic attempts at status within the team.
try and all pull together rather than worrying about who is stronger within the team, the individual events will sort that out.

Well said ! Have any of our team played against the other countries at the challengers this year ? If so how did they get on ?

Mark Kyle (haffa jaffa as im led to believe)...how can you comment on who will win the individual events and also team selection when you know nothing about that age group outside scotland?

HaffaJaffa
10th April 2004, 22:34
lol, as u r led to believe, lol, i do know about other competitors outside scotland through U15 challeneger events, quadrangular and people talking. So ur wrong, i do know about other players outside scotland. And as the english team should b the immdeiate threat, i saw the quad team posted on the english badminton website and was 'led to believe' that since they have an under 14 team, scotland should prove the stronger team.
Why did u say 'Mark Kyle' at the start of ur comment?

Phil McBride
11th April 2004, 13:24

Is the quad this weekend and who will be the main contenders for the individual titles and what countries are the favourites for the team title?

softy
27th April 2004, 10:33
quad starts on Friday night, full timetable on www.scotbadminton.demon.co.uk
under press release dated 26th April.

possibly team event could be between Scotland and England (last match at Sat lunchtime) but players change so much over a year that the other two countries should not be discounted.

re individual events, same comments apply but this was discussed earlier in the thread, lot depends on who plays in team matches and the luck of the draw.

let's hope we are kept up to date on this site or the official site

Hey guys just a wee good luck shout I think everyone has a cracking chance to do well and hopefully il try and get along to support the peeps.

Phil McBride
27th April 2004, 19:55
My money is on McPhail (anyone care to take the bet?)

I think I will go and see the sole (male) member of the lottery squad playing, in training he holds his own well against the other players a couple of years older than himself!

Those of you with parents who want to "slap" me, look for the wee fat guy with no hair. You should be carefull which coaches you confide in, especially if they pass on this kind of information in a jovial manner!

Probably best not to pick the one who also coaches me! (although I suspect not any longer)

Drew
27th April 2004, 22:20
Does anyone think that Ireland or Wales will worry the other two the the team or individuals?

Phil McBride
27th April 2004, 22:38
The problem with underestimating you opponent is that they always come back and bite you in the ass! If you are written off you have no one to let down and can perform to your full potential, if you are tipped to win you have the pressure of expectation and if you do not you feel as if you let people down.

Everyone is (as I'm sure you realise) backing the Scots and even some misguided members are even thinking the English can win!

No seriously, each team can win but the Scots will!

Yup, well done to the Scottish team and the coaches but where was the support?

It would seem the noise was being made by the squad members who were not playing sitting down the front and a few others who were jacked up on the Britney Spears adrenalin from Friday night!

Have to give a mention to Gordon Thompson and Stephen McPhail who were in the crowd giving out thundersticks trying to get the noise levels up!

Would have been nice for some of the more senior players to be involved supporting the young team though! The S.B.U. website has not even been updated yet, this should have been done on Sunday! Never mind the bank holiday, ever heard of remote access or PC anywhere?

Good result for the squad, well done!!

Well done Scotland. The best team one.

But surely Gabby White deserves a mention here. Three individual titles out of three and an under 14.
Looks like a successfull tournament for the English girls and Scottish boys.

What happened to the Scottish girls?

Frame
5th May 2004, 17:52
Fair comment John but I suspect it was down to one girl in the English team who seemed to be too good for our best girls - G White beat G Sloan, L Dargie & L Sloan comfortably in the singles as well as Hockey/Dargie,McPhail/Sloan & Leith/Arabshahi in the mixed ! I take it she also contributed to at least 2 of Englands wins in the team game against Scotland ?
