i think think that carlton racquets has never been good because firstly their paint work is easy to scratch and secondly they use few materials to make the racquets instead of using plenty as shown by yonex

same rackets, same factory, yawn.

stop bigging up yonex. they are marketing gods not product gods. same product better marketing.

simple response but who cares how many materials ur rackets made out of it should only matter whether you like playin with it. I play with the carlton megaflex f1 ti and its a great racket

lol - i think people that play with yonex get jealous when they see that great racquets can be made cheaper - and they feel a bit ripped off... :oD

at the end of the day there are internation players/teams that use every brand of racquet - doesn't that show that it doesn't make a lot of difference..?

the most likely reason that more people appear to use yonex on the international circuit is because yonex is a far east based company - and the main badminton playing countries in the world are also based in the far east!

denmark mostly play with forza apart from the very top players who yonex has converted (lucrative sponsorship deal)

and most of the brits play with carlton/karakal and a few others.

neway - back to topic.. have nathan and anthony tested these racquets yet?

Looked yesterday at the centralsports site and the new carlton rackets weren't available anyway.

Plus why are they still producing Peter Rasmussen rackets, I know he is a great player but let's face it, he's near retiring and he was world champion back in 97.

I've heard that the Dunlop/slazenger/Carlton were bought out by the Sports soccer chain, which if anyone has been in their shops, sells lots of outdated, cheap stuff. Carlton could go the way of Donnay and become a bit of a rubbish brand. I don't think our top players would play with them if they don't intend to keep up standards

i think the new rasmussen racquets are named after Jonas Rasmussen - one half of the world champion MD pair and also in the top 5 at mixed with rikke olsen..

could be wrong tho.. i think carlton will continue to churn out racquets - not at the same rate as yonex, but at a decent pace. they've stepped up event sponsorship this year by covering the nationals so they're not dead and buried yet..

rumour has it that Dunlop/Slazenger/Carlton are pulling out of racket sports and that includes tennis.

danbelcher
30th April 2004, 09:44
It's not Jonas Rasmussen, it's Peter. Jonas is sponsored by Yonex.

And i heard that rumour too Grover

I hope that some of our top players choose not to go with Yonex if this is the case

Grover, i think Dunlop is going more into racket sports. I was told by my supplier. Infact, I even got a few new Badminton rackets from Dunlop. Its awesome. I have put one of them at ebay. However, we will know when the new dunlopsports website is out....

where do you guys get/hear this news?

robinhood
30th April 2004, 10:55
I got it from my supplier. Don't know if its true, he was telling me after dunlop's success with squash rackets, they continued with tennis rackets and then into badminton.

carlton is dunlop - mebbe this explains the new racquets - i'd heard advance news of the new rasmussen range - but not the powerblade..

i am not sure about carlton = dunlop. this is the racket i was refering to http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3673912155&category=31 366&sspagename=STRK%3AMESSE%3AIT&rd=1

it may be that dunlop is consolidating it's brands - much easier to promote one brand (like yonex do across badminton, tennis and golf, and prince does across badmiton, tennis and squash) so we may see no more carlton racquets and more dunlop racquets.

looks like a nice racquet btw :D

Hmmmm, that might be true..... The racket is at its cost price. However, I doubt anyone will bid on it as its not as popular as YY. We will see...OK we better come back to the thread "New Carlton Racquets!!!!!"

Hi all,
I use the new (Peter)Rasmussen Tour. Very nice racket but shame they decided to name the range after a ex-world champion who hasn't really played in the last 3 years!! Only been using it for just over a month but it did an pretty good job at the europeans so I guess I'll keep with them. As far as the rumours go, carlton will continue to make rackets end of story!
p.s. Go out and buy one tomorrow then I get more sponsor money.
Thanks
N.R

cheers nathan, it's always a great help to hear what the top players think of new racquets.

what do carlton prestring it with? and what tension?

cheers,

NathanRobertson

I've got no idea what they pre-string them at but I string mine at 31/32 pounds. Probably a bit tight for regular club players but high 20's will be good enough for most standard of players.
As for quality of rackets,, all top of the range quality brand rackets are roughly simular so as they say its not the racket its the PLAYER!!!

lol - cheer nathan, do you never sleep? posting at 1 in the morning..

you get a lot of power out of your racquet considering how tight you have it...

thanks again..

these are the powerflo racquets yeah? the one piece thingos. I'm not really that impressed. Does it really make that much difference?

i'm not sure to be honest, i was guessing based on the name. i thought the new powerblade range might be a hybrid of the powerflo and the airblade racquets.

the new rasmussen racquets seem to be almost identical apart from they have a classic shaped head and not an iso head like the powerblade

For the Last year I have been using 3 Carlton AS-1s and liked them a lot, I have now purchased a new Powerblade Tour which apart from the great look, it has a lot of power and the feel is fantastic, I have now ordered some Rasmussen tours and can't wait to try them out, should get them on Saturday, i'll try and keep you posted................

A quick question for Nathan if he's still watching this thread,

How much trouble did you get into in the Olympics for running out of rackets and using the yonex's and how much do you think it affected your performance, knowing you were in big trouble with your sponsers

This sounds very strange to me! one of my son's coaches is Hong Kong Team rep who keeps on flying here and there for doing competitions. everytime he wants rackets, he just needs to say it with the specific stings and tension. that's all. everytime a new racket model is issued, he will be given at least half a dozen to try(with diff strings/tension etc)

when a pro is using a sponsored racket, it is supposedly doing good for the brand owner. it's very strange that the sponsers will not co-operate!!!!

You didn't watch the competition did you Red??

Nathan played for the duration where he and Gail got into the final, Nathan continually burst strings all the way through the competition and only had about 3 rackets left to play the final, on the day during the match he burst these and had to borrow a racket off Gail to play with.

I don't know if he burst this or it just plain didn't suit but he was laft with about 3 points to play with no racket when someone came over to him and gave him what looked like 2 MP77's to use.

Nathan is sponsored by Carlton.

To his defense he did not look well having to accept them and even tried to hide the logo on the strings and was looking about in a kind of "you have GOT to be joking" way waiting on another racket being offered.

That must have been embarrasing for Nathan,

like Schumacher being offered a Maclaren if his ferrari died........

hmm interesting, maybe we would see how good that car actually is once you take it out of action mans hands...

really? that's what i think too. nevertheless, mini coopers won a lot of awards last 2 years in US and asia. i think it will become less crappy when the toyota engines are installed...sounds like foreign player in england...hehehe :D

I have to say I agree with BOTH McB and Red, my god there is rare sight!

I thought the fact that the Mini Cooper S won almost every performance car of the year award going over the year of its launch was pretty daft.

blah b;ah, affordable performance, blah blah, accessible to most, blah blah, big grin on my face after driving.

still dont like em.
