i've put your post through my english translator and i still can't understand it!!
what is the problem with writing full words.or don't you know how?
this is supposed to be a serious site with decent discussion, strong opinions and a bit of humour.
this is just another example of the crap that is coming on to this site.i put up a thread about a junior section as a bit of a joke but maybe its worth considering?
i'm interested as to what your position is site support?

Thank you Mr Magoo...
We have responded to a few people offline who use 'txt' language and phonetics, trying to encourage them to use more general English i.e. words with vowels and the right number of letters.
Many have been receptive but I think you are right to remind people it is not easy for people to read or understand.
Hopefully this isn't taken as 'anti' young people, texters, lazy people etc but we do encourage people to use the forums without text speak.
Being quite relaxed the moderators thought it fine to allow a few 'txt' threads recently, but these are increasing and as we did a year or so ago, we request that these be stopped.
Many thanks for your patience and as always please email us directly should you have any questions regarding this.
Many thanks,
Site Support.

you guys are a little old fashioned , is that enough letters for you! you could be sentencing anyone who posts a message on here to repetitive strain injury!

Over 30's Translation:
We have decided to do a mini survey to try and find out who all the girls in our age group think is the fittest (most good looking) guy - becauase we cant think of any. The reason we are doing this is because the lads think that its OK to do a survey on the best looking girl in badminton, and we think that we should be allowed to do the same.
So far we have: Michael Blyth, Steve McPhail and Daniel Adams on the list, and apart from them we cant think of any others. We also think that there should be more good looking english players because some tournaments leave out the scottish teams!
Any ideas? Ang and Claire xxxxx

riteo, i dont see the big deal bout text language but neva mind. May i take this oppurtunity to thank Michael hill for doing a translation for the over 30's-who i am sure could have worked out what we were saying..had they tried hard enough n had they not purposely set out to be annoying. And thanx (thank you) to Chris Farren for being on our side with this 1! And yea(yes) we did mean Dan Adams from yorkshire but in general we feel that the scottish teams hav a friendlier/generally nicer selection of boys than the english lol (laugh out loud)

I think even the over 30's know what "lol" means, even if they dont particularly want too. Anyway, i reckon Handal from warwickshire is the fittest anyway, its those 90 degree angles on his head that really do it.

i apologise for detracting off the main subject of this post but I feel I must agree 100% with Mr Magoo. I read the first line or should I say 'attempted to read' the first line and thought 'what?!?' - to me it made no sense and I didn't have the patience to try and work it out.
As said, this site is 'trying' to appeal to everyone in the badminton community and not everyone uses this 'text' language.
Don't get me wrong, but I feel that text language was invented for cellular telephones because they have 'limited' text area - this site does not.
AND..... as for an answer to your 'post question' - 'i think i'm too old to have an opinion!' :-)

nope i think its because they are just trying to avoid this thread now, and have no wishes to comment on this particular topic.

28th May 2004, 20:50
yup probs about rite, its just getting tedious now. Wouldnt it be better to say nothin on the subject of 'text language' now considering that no one is using it anymore or start another thread about it? We all know the quote from Bambie that adults over use "If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at al" some (not all) of the adults on ere should practice what they preach!

Ok, one last note to the text speakers on this site, seeing as most of you seem to be posting on here (oh and for the record, no I'm nowhere near the over 30 mark thankyou!!)
Someone earlier mentioned that this is not an English exam and therefore there is no need to correct grammar and spelling. On the other hand, this site is written in English, not text speak, French, German or any other language, yet I realise that it is not entirely used by English speakers.
If you insist on using text speak, whats to stop other people from using their own language on here, or one that they can speak that you don't?
I've studied French at A-level and its a headache, but I can understand bits of it and I can understand text speak. By the same token this site is not written in French, so in coming on here I don't expect to be reading French. The same goes for text speak to some extent.
Its invented to save money by not having to go over the word count when writing a mobile phone message. What are you saving here? Time? Because if you have the time to post on a forum, then clearly you have time on your hands!
Right, rant over!
flamingjam
6th June 2004, 21:59
quiet you that rant ages would hav been v much quicker in text
Vorpulus
6th June 2004, 23:06
Exactly Pete. Maybe if you wrote in txt speak, you wouldn't age so much when you post. Honestly Pete, how long does it take to make a simple point? If you respond, keep it short please.

MY two penneth!
I agree with you Pete Glews!!
By the way, in response to a thread referring to myself. I don't have an opinion on u15/u16 badminton players because I don't know many who play at the level most of you do. But if forced to say... Andrew Piff of Norfolk is a very promising talent.
