Hey, as Adz said, that's the next one I think. Adz, do you play county badminton? I'm looking to enter the doubles tournament, even if I will get trounced! Where are you from Steph? Next year hopefully my club will be having a tournament where we hope to attract more county players. Mark

hi i'm from redcar and am struggling to get in to a county squad i can't get into durham because i live in the wrong area, however i'm going to a yorkshire coaching weekends in september and will hopefully get in to yorkshire that way. I go to training non-stop so hopefully that might help. :)

That'll be good then. How old are you? Hate to be rude! There's a few juniors from our club going to those coaching sessions, should be a good experience for them. I've never actually been to any trials or anything, wish I had now! I'm 18, going on 19, so hope to enter a few ESBAs with a friend of mine.

Ah right, nice and easy then! Well, not as such, I'm taking my Part 1 Coaching Award, been through the 3 days. I'm only 18, would have liked to have gone to York training but don't know whether they do it for my age. I do coach our junior members with the help of a qualified coach!

I'm sure you'll do fine. If not though, it's excellent experience for you. I've never been given the chance like you have so just do your best! Next year our club is going to host another Tournament that you're free to enter, it is in Keighley though (about an hour or so drive from you.) If you visit www.keighleybc.co.uk, look for the Kobras section it's got a bit of info about us on there.

markhawker
14th August 2004, 14:36
Well, overall we had about 50 unique entrants. That was without advertising or looking at other regions. Next year we hope to invite a lot more people and advertise a bit more. To traning we get about 40 kids over two sessions. It's something that you can look towards for next year, just keep in touch.

As far as I'm aware, there'll be about 8 of our juniors going. Yeah, the RI is a nice venue, Rotherham's nice too, had a lot of courts there! We have 4 courts here, so a bit less spacious.

Yeah, there are some good players. I've seen a few England juniors, a lot of emphasis on net play and movement. Obviously there's not as much strength but that'll come. Good on you, good luck anyway. I may see you there if I have a drive up.

when is the next major event in yorkshire?

markhawker
14th August 2004, 17:22
There should be a few on them days, check out http://www.ysba.org.uk/ for confirmation of your 11/12th dates. We have t-shirts, but it's not a major thing about kit. As long as you wear something badminton-like, not your favourite Marilyn Manson get-up you'll be fine!! You can buy t-shirts there if you'd like one. I might pop up on one of those days, but am not sure yet.

As for next event in Yorkshire, I'm in the dark. Hopefully being part of the BAofE will help me find out. Check out there web site for more details.

hi, what is YSBA? some sort of training club?

markhawker
15th August 2004, 13:44
The YSBA is Yorkshire Schools Badminton Assosiation, they're an organisation, as such, who control all of the badminton events around Yorkshire.

"Yorkshire Schools Badminton Association exists to promote and provide badminton opportunities for players of school age.

Organisation of the Associations activities is by a committed group of volunteer teachers, friends and coaches."
