Our league, like the vast majority of others, plays best of nine rubbers. It's a point a rubber, and a point if you win the match. This doesn't account for valiant attempts by the losing team, who may have lost very close games.
Has anyone come up with a scoring system that takes into consideration these facts? How does 2 points a rubber, but 1 point for the losing pair if they score 10 or more points in 2 or more games sound?

It sounds very complicated!
Although this game is played by everybody in the main for enjoyment, when taking part in competitive play (league matches) then however many points the losing team scores per game is irrelevent they still lost. You would never expect football teams to get a point if they scored more than three goals in a game yet still lost.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, especially as we've all been in that situation.

like Rob Helps, I have suffered similar defeats by 9-0 in the same circumstances he describes. Playing for points, rather than rubbers, is one way of partially getting over this, as weak pairs have an incentive to go for as many points as possible over strong pairs. Two games only per rubber, also has an advantage if time is limited at the venue, no dragging on till 1am !!
