At its AGM in Kuala Lumpur, the International Badminton Federation announced its first step towards the introduction of a new scoring system.
Tests using a five-game seven-point system will be carried out at the World Junior Championships in Guangzhou in later this year, and if successful, the IBF will then introduce it in other competitions.
IBF President, Madame Lu Shengrong, indicated that the new system would be beneficial to commercial sponsors and TV companies, as well as making badminton more competitive: "It will be good to test out the new scoring system. It will shorten the duration of a game and will make it more competitive."
