Schools badminton on the increase

The schools involved were Charleston, Culloden, Dingwall, Lional, Lochaber, Mallaig, Millburn, Nairn, Nicolson, Plockton, Portree, Tain.
The winners of each event now go on to Meadowbank Sports Centre to compete in the Scottish finals on March 15-16.
The results of the finals were:
under-14s boys’ singles: P Carrie (Charleston) beat C Riddel (Nairn) 21-0
Girls: C MacPhail (Nicholson) beat A Miller (Plockton) 21-2
Boys’ doubles: W Adams/P MacGillivray (Lochaber) beat I Robertson/G MacPhee (Portree) 21-4
Girls’ doubles: J Westbrook/K MacDonald (Nairn) beat H Yeudall/L Yeudall (Millburn) 21-4
Mixed doubles: J Jackson/W Adams (Lochaber) beat A Miller/D MacRae (Plockton) 21-6.
Under-16s, boys’ singles: M Brand (Tain) beat YL Adams (Lochaber) 21-7
Girls: F Vass (Nairn) beat L Calder (Millburn) 21-12
Boys’ doubles: M Brand/A Ross (Tain) beat L Adams/A MacDonald (Lochaber) 21-7
Girls’ doubles: J Murray/C MacPhail (Nicholson) beat R Drain/J MacKinnon (Lochaber) 21-7
Mixed doubles: C Campbell/N Young/(Plockton) beat S Morrison/J Murray (Nicholson) 21-10.
Under-19s, boys’ singles: M Vass (Nairn)) beat N Hamilton (Portree)) 21-2;
Girls: Strachan (Plockton) beat G Coe (Plockton) 21-3
Boys’ doubles: M Jeorrell/P Carrie (Charleston) beat G Shirley/C Hemm (Lochaber) 21-2
Girls’ doubles: I Strachan/N Young (Plockton) beat G Coe/ J Whear (Plockton) 21-1
It is encouraging to see these tournaments so fully attended and strongly contested in the junior ranks.
